Tuning Gurus please advise
To preface, I just spent 2 hours searching and reading posts about UTEC and Technosquare, and I'm still unsure. I already had a flash done (not Technosquare) that I think just left me running a point rich (12.95 AFR) on my last dyno. A bunch of breathing mods, and unless I hit the lotto, I'm done and want to get my A/F right. I'm here in SoCal, so either are within driving range. I know that the UTEC is twice as much cash, but I've already spent a small fortune so......No SC or TT in my future, NA with mods listed below, what's the best route to get the most out of what I've done. Thanks in advance for your help. Greg
Thank you Z1. I forgot to say that I had the flash done befor the headers, and the MREV-2 & 5/16 spacer were installed. The dyno with the 12.95 A/F was before those also. What sticks in my mind, is the Tech who did the dyno telling me that I was "about a point rich and that there was more power to be had." As my final "mod", I want that power. I'm asking those who have had to make this decision before me, (with just breathing mods), between UTEC and Technosquare, which and why? Thanks again for any input. Greg
Yes, another dyno would be nice as you've added headers and the spacer kit since your flash. That way you can tell if you're still running rich or not. I would think you'd have leaned out a bit more from the 12.95 AFR from before. I would be a little worried about timing as on tunes I've done before, I would retard it a bit from someone who didn't have headers and a plenum mod than someone who did.
Greg - I would def get the car redyno'd as well. The flash is great if it's done on your car, so there might not be a need for any additional tuning. That being said, many still get good gains when going from a custom flash to a utec tune, but it is car specific (results vary). As an example, I had a custom flash done on my own car by Altered Atmosphere at their dyno (I drove down to MD). Without adding any other power related mods, I eventually switched to a UTEC back in January (I had one of the pre-production units). I ended up netting a 10-12 whp gain over my custom flash (in that area, you can do a search for posts by me back in January for the charts). Annecdotal, but others have noted similar gains as well.
There is no need to be retarding timing on an NA car, even on 91 octane - if that's becoming necessary, your fuel and/or timing curves are way off.

Indeed. Thank you for the input. I've been scoping for a dyno day for the last couple of days. I'm not sure if my ECU will "learn" my new additions, and I really want to get it right. From the driver's seat, I really don't know if I can tell an extra 5 or 10 or 15 rwhp, but She feels strong.
