so is it true that in order to get the most gains possible with the utec you should also have a reflash?

reason i am asking is that the original poster said that he had a reflash done, then added the utec. if he did not have the reflash, would he still have had the same results with just the utec?

He yeilded power gains OVER the reflash, which means if he went with the UTEC from the start, he would have saved over $600 for the reflash, and gained a dookieload of HP from the start..There is no point in doing the reflash and a UTEC..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a UTEC can't raise the rev limiter or alter the Electronic Throttle Control maps can it? Just that would make a reflash worth while for people looking to get the full potential out of their engine. I would agree that a custom flash would be of no use if you planed to install a UTEC. A LOT of Suby folks run a UTEC w/ a flash.

Jared.

a UTEC can raise the rev limiter on pre 05 cars

the throttle control map...honestly I had mine "done" when I had the car flashed - and it made absolutely zero difference in how the hp and torque curves looked.

Thanks for correcting me on that one.
Only pre 05? That seems odd. Can you tell us why that is?

Jared,

Nissan changed the way in which the car limits its engine rpm in 2005. In addition to the 2003-2004.5 rev-limiter parameters, Nissan added the element of throttle to assist the rev-limit process. When the 2005+ vehicles near redline the throttle starts to close.

If your car has the throttle rev-limit assist you can easily tell. Cars without it come to and "hit" the rev-limiter abruptly. Cars with the throttle assisted come near the rev-limit and very gracefully the vehicle seems to simply loose all of its power.

An ECU Flash can be a great complement to the UTEC for many people, especially if you have a turbocharger, supercharger, and/or larger injectors. Several features of the ECU Flash include 2005+ Rev-Throttle Control, Idle Control, Injector Scaling, Factory Fuel Feedback Target, Throttle Manipulation, and Torque Management.

Hope this helps,
