ECU thought/poll
Since most of these aftermarket mods give minimal gains, and it seems like on some dyno's, as soon as a gain is detected, the computer cuts the timing back (see 350zmotoring.com thread on headers), and since Nissan has planned all along to bring Nismo to the states, how does this sound:
Nissan has bugged the ecu, so that appreciable gains can not be made until they introduce their line of aftermarket parts, giving them competitive advantage, and allowing them to take their time in introducing the parts, so they aren't at the back of the line.

MR350Z (on this board) could shed some light on this. However, I asked him the exact same thing a few months ago in another thread and he ignored the question.
He is supposed to be the product planning manager at Nissan/NISMO.

Are you saying that Nissan's stock ECU negates gains from mods, and that unless you upgrade to the NISMO ECU, your not going to see appreciable gains?
I don't doubt this position, I just wanted clairification of your thinking.
If this is what you are saying, then Nissan would be shooting themselves in the foot. Lots of people will upgrade exhaust and intakes. Not as many will upgrade the ECU. If the above statement is correct, then NISMO would have the same issues of not seeing gains with their common "bolt on" stuff as well. This would hurt sales since their stuff is always so much more expensive then their competetors.

We are currently running the NISMO headers on our race car. Yes they made a difference. We have had them for over a month.
I do not know if there will ever be a NISMO ECU available to US street customers. I cannot speak for them.
If you look at it from Nissans/NISMO's perspective....the last thing they needs is to have someone start making ECU's for their new car, and have them not programmed properly. Then all of a sudden there are 5,000 Nissan 350 Z 's that are having engine problems at the dealership. thus putting out bad press and decreasing sales.
I think they know what they are doing. Trust me..... the fires are glowing at NISMO........

Well, Nissn isn't technically bring NISMO to the USA. They will have NISMO equivelent parts, but will not come from Japan. Nissan is going to have Nissan Motorsports which is USA equal to NISMO. I do not know if they will be labeling it NISMO or not. They currently have Jim Wolf working on cams, retainers and a flywheel. I do know the ECU is on the board, but not until other parts are released.

Not arguing with you gfornal.
That was just what we had been told and we are working with NMNA on our race program. JWT might be doing the stuff for the street aftermarket and I am misinformed on that part then.

Im posative that Nissan was conservative with the ECU (how much is anyones guess) BUT i dont think it has anything to do with NISMO. NISMO is pretty low on Nissans to do list, so I dont think they had them in mind when tuning the ECU. Now, reliability, emissions, and easy of power down the road were probably what they were thinking about.

I confirmed it with both Nissan Motorsports and Jim Wolf.

Point in hand... the CAMS have already been made for quite sometime. Actually before ANY of the other mods... I'm sure you can figure this one out on your own... Thus disproving your statement...
Thanks for trying!
