Default The New Piggyback EMS "HKS FCON iS"

Well SGP says I'm the first 350z in the country to be tuned by the new FCON iS piggyback ems. Too bad Im just NA... not for long though!! I notice the difference right away. Definitely smoother driving experience. Of course, there is still alot of other options I have yet to explore, i.e. Video Output. It's only a matter of time. I'll keep ya guys updated.

are you able to tune this yourself or does it have to be tuned by an approved hks dealer?

Unfortunately, you must tune it at an authorized HKS dealer.

SGP is selling the EMS for $800. Plus, you must get the HKS 350z harness. You gotta call them for that. I got my Harness from Trublu here on the Forum. Remember you must go thru HKS Pro Dealer for purchase and install.

How does this unit compare to the EU and UTEC in functionality? What kind of information can you report on the screen?

Sand, I dont have a screen just yet. So I really can't tell what it all can display, but I'll keep you update as soon as i get the screen.

I was told this unit is only 2nd to the Vpro, but you know how opinions are. They compared another NA Z with pretty much the same setup but tuned by the UTEC. I made more rwhp and torque. Not knocking the UTEC, it was just a comparsion. I'd like to state "I never seen a UTEC" So I really dont know which would be better or worst.

We're in the process of applying for HKS Pro-Dealer status, so I will inquire about this unit. I wonder if its a trimed down version of the FCON VPro, but still maintains full control over fuel and timing. At an $800 price point, it might be more like an emanage, where it makes changes to the stock ECU program. Maybe someone from SGP can chime in with more details. mark?

The FCON iS is the successor to the FCON SZ. It is a piggy back unit that modifies the stock ECU's signals. THe video output should work with most monitors that have an aux input. With a press of a switch (included with the iS), you can page through 3 screens of different data that is setup by your Pro Dealer. A 4th screen can be activated as well that displays all data available. Limits or warnings can also be configuered, for example, if water temp exceeds a certaintemp, the display will turn red. RPM, throttle, airflow, injector pulse, water, and more can be displayed, and if you are using the DB, or Chrono meters, it can be linked to the display as well. There is an optional OBD2 cable that can be purchased and can display some of the stock ECU data also.

but does this piece have its own injector/ignition drivers? I had an F Con SZ with Navigator for my Z way back when but ended up going UTEC as it offered me much more flexibility, and a lower cost

I dont think it does. Based on what John mentioned, it modifies the stock ECU signals.
