Default Any CARB (CA) legal EMS?

I'm in desperate need of a California ARB legal EMS system. Does anybody know of one?

is there even a such thing as carbo legal ems? Only the FI kit is needed to be CARB legal and that is vortech.

The Stillen is also CARB legal. There is no such thing as a CARB EMS since an EMS allows you to change fuel curves which in turn changes your emissions.

If you get something like the greddy emanage ultimate with autosport harness, you will be able to remove the EU with no problems in about 3 minutes.

That's assuming that you don't need the EU to run the car with the mods that you have.

Sorry to dig up this old thread but I searched and Im trying to figure out what to do here.

I want get ems, UTEC, Haltech, etc. I would like to get the ems soon so that I can learn to do some tuning while my car is in its n/a stage. In the next couple of years I will be adding bolt-ons and eventually I will be getting a vortech.

I want to stay carb legal, as there is a good chance I will be moving back to CA in the next couple years.

If I get A utec and the vortech will I still be carb legal? If not, what are my options? How are you CA guys running safe boost and keeping the smog gods off your back?

Thanks,
-Dan

The UTEC has a slector switch for map selections. The "0" setting is just a UTEC bypass so then your car goes back to having the stock ECU, I just used it and passed my smog check. Although the smog guy did think my resonators on my exhaust were secondary after market cats and freaked out. Oddly enough he said nothing about my crawford HFC's... Back on subject. Its either use the stock ecu setting on the utec or install a bypass harness.

OK but if I ran the stock tune for the smog wouldnt that be very dangerous with a vortech?

Basicly I just want to know if the person at the inspection station is gonna freak out if there is an aftermarket ems.

Im not too worried about passing the sniffer test, I just want to pass the visual inspection.

^ you can unhook the belt if you want. it will run like an unboosted car then.

more than likely though if you have a stock vortech setup and use their EMS then you have CARB legal papers for it.

The reason I want the vortech is for the carb number it comes with. The problem is, the basic vortech ems that comes with the vortech system is not safe.

So the question is, are the inspection guys gonna freak if they find an aftermarket ems? I can tune the car to be clean and pass the sniffer test. Its only the visual inspection that concerns me.

thanks

I have an EMS that no law enforcement can see. It resides on your stock ECU, and since you're near a Pro Tuner you could even have it tuned properly for your car and the parts you've added!

Not CARB approved, but would be impossible for anything less than the dealership to detect.

Ok thanks for the replies.

I would be very intreasted in the UpRev software if it wasent locked. Thats why Im looking at Utec, Haltech, etc. instead of yours or the hks stuff.

Im shure you make a great product but I want the ability to tune my car myself, every single day if I so desire. Also being in the military, I never know where I might go next so I need to be able to do stuff like this for myself. I suspect it might be hard to find uprev tuners in certin parts of the country.

I guess I'll keep looking, though I'm not shure where to go from here....

out of curiosity, how would the dealer know?... would it be obvious when they plug in the OBDII?

^^^ I know... I have Osiris... I'm wondering how the dealer would know the ECU has been flashed?... If I needed to take the car to them I'd have it in econo map (semi stock mode)... I'd like to know what would clue them in if anything...

Look back at us in 2 weeks or so when we release Osiris Tuner. That will give you exactly what you want. We're just doing testing on it right now, but it's a solid product that we've used on a number of our customers cars both NA and FI. Last car was 550whp JWT TT G35 with 1000cc HKS Injectors. Car runs perfectly now.

Yup, it shows up differently than a blank stock ROM does for the ConsultII and ConsultIII computers that they use.
