Default UTEC fuel values on RC550's

So, I'm having a little issue, I've been street tuning my new Greddy TT setup and I've hit the problem that I'm still running a little lean at 15~16psi pulls, but the UTEC won't let me add in anymore fuel (300 is the highest number I can enter) but my logging program is only saying that I'm at 18% duty cycle (but then it may be lying!!)

And then I have the problem that I've got large soot spray on my garage floor but the car idles at 14.7afr.

Any insights would be awesome.

I am curious what what values you have in you "0" column to scale the 550 back.

I have deatschwerks 550s and I have it at -15% in the 0% column. The wideband shows approx. 14.7 at idle and cruise, but my gas mileage is significantly down.

I also have -15% in the 0% column, I'm not sure how my regular gas mileage is yet and I'm still doing tuning and getting on it a lot ...

I forgot to mention that even though I'm running about 12.7afr I have no knock which is good ....

Actually, below about 12psi I'm running rich in the 10% -> 50% columns so I'll need to lean that out, also I am noticing a large dark smoke puff when I shift ...

Here is my current AFR map ...

So, I talked to Sharif and he suggests that the fact that I need to add so much fuel up top is indicative of lack of fuel pressure. I have a gauge in the engine bay and it does rise if the throttle is blipped so maybe I need to raise it a bit from it's idle setting of 45psi ...

But I really need to see how it raises when under boost.

Also, I found a place up here that tunes UTEC's (evo's and stis) so I may give them an hours worth of money to see how far they can get.

I know it sounds silly not wanting to spend money on a tune but I am flat out broke right now ...

Also make sure your injector scaling is zeroed out. 380 to 380 or whatever. Injector scaling should be done in the zero % load column only.

So, a quick update, I turned the fuel pressure up to ~50psi at idle and then took it for a spin, the new afr map looks something like this, I also reduced all of the IPW numbers back down to sensible ranges and I'm still running a little rich up to which is awesome (and tunable) ...

Once I've done a decent road tune I'll post the UTEC map in the hope that it'll help other people starting out with no base map. Don't get me wrong, Sharif sent me a base map for 440's which helped me tremendously

your 10% column is super fat over 3750 rpms!!!!!! lean that WAY out. I bet right now you get a big buck when you let off the throttle, especially if you were at low boost when you let off the throttle.

Why yes I do, so, that poses the question, what should the afr on the 10% column look like, currently my 80% column is my max boost (~16psi), I am assuming that you want a smooth transition from 0% -> 10% so that would mean that you want to be a little on the rich side of stoich (~13.8 ish).

Also, what should the 10% -> 80% cell look like down at 2000kish rpm, I am assuming once again that you want to be about 14.5 and then blending down to 11.5 ...

Are these fair assumptions ??

colin,

I think I tuned my 10% column to something like 13.5:1. I did some datalogging with stock injectors and using the UTEC "0" map to see what the stock ecu does at low boost. I kept the boost down to 1-2 psi. I was surprised to see that the ecu fattened things up to around 12.8:1 at 1 psi during my runs. These were part throttle acceleration runs.

Wow, I've been using UTI and using the targetAFR autotune feature, damn this is a nice program ...

http://www.dezignduo.com/UTI/phpBB2/

Once I get the teething problems fixed I'm gonna be running this program all the time

Works really well, some other users gave the creator enough info to get the logger working and I'm working with him to ensure that the dashboard etc works great.

Apart from a little teething problem, this is autotuning my car fantastically

i looked at the site, but it seems like it is designed to work off the MAF, not the map sensor. Am I right or am I wrong?

also, does it only correct for A:F ratio? what about timing? A:F is only half the process for tuning!

Autotune for MAP (speed density) is also implemented and works really well. Yeah, timing is not adjusted by this program as it can have no idea what the ideal timing should be.

Default Sorry I went off the topic, just need a quick answer.

I just wish I new what you guys are talking about. Anybody know a place on the internet that teaches you how to use a Utec? I just want to learn what I can that I can't learn from experience so I can be safe for when I do use a Utec for when I get enough $$$$ for a TT kit.

I doubt you want to start by self tuning a boosted car.

I won't be self tuning. I have a Z owner local of me who says he has a friend with a Utec that owns a G or Z (cant remember?) that knows how to use it, and will hopefully be installing the TT ourselves.

I want to install my own TT kit so I can learn from it (with the Z friend of course). I really would like to find a way to see how Utecs work, so if you know Wired 24/7 (or anyone) where I could find something even a bit helpfull that has some detailed explaining of it that would be cool.
