Got my UTEC tune

Got my UTEC tune
Got the UTEC in and tuned. I didn't make the top end gains I wanted. But my AFR is much safer on both maps. On the 91 aggressive map we gained 5-10whp/wtq between 3000-6500rpm & 5wtq peak. We're thinking cause I'm running stock cat-back with the APS test pipes the car is to restricted and thats what is stopping the top end gains. Looks like next buy is a cat-back.
1) The blackline pull is my stock baseline: 232.88/226.36
2) The blueline pull is with the following mods: APS 2.5" testpipe, JWT PopCharger, MotorDyne 5/16" Plenum Spacer w/ ISO Thermal Gaske, & UR Underdrive Crank Pulley: 249.45/236.49
3) The redline pull is with the UTEC tune: 249.93/240.25 You can see that most of the gains are between 3000 & 6000 rpms. The car feel a lot faster now. Can't wait to tune with 100 octane on the 28th.

Did you learn from your tuner about what was going on as he was tuning? Give a man a meal and he will surely starve, but teach a man to fish and he will live forever... Or untill he gets married and his wife nags the $hit out of him to get off the computer and stay out of the garage...

right on robert k! ...not suby yet!
glad to hear you got everything in and running.
i was fortunate enough that my tuner let me be involved in the whole process. i am hoping to go back and have mine re-tuned...the self tuning is fun but very time consuming. taking chances wot in 4th gear is not a good thing.
you made some nice gains there and i bet the car runs much smoother now through the powerband.
glad to hear you got everything in and running.

Looks good, but don't expect big gains from 100 oct (unless you're FI).
Do you have a A/F graph or log that you care to share w/ the class? A timing log would be appreciated too, but I won't get to greedy.

or what?
Get those datalogs from some freeway pulls ASAP!
I want to see your timing too, hop to it!
You'd better make sure your exhaust is flush with those 2.5" test pipes. That is a rather big pipe compared to my kinetix cats which mate up with the stock exhaust a little better. I think that's how I had such success with the stock exhaust.

I've been down this road...I spent a lot of money tuning with UTEC N/A. Tuners will never tell you that you shouldn't bother as they are in business to make money...but I will.
Robert, save your money. If I had it to do again, at $600 a tuning session, I wouldn't have even bought UTEC until I decided to add turbo(s) or SC. Gains were very minimal going from 93 to 100 octane.
Given the cost of UTEC, the Tuner Reg, map sensor, etc; it's my opinion that you ONLY see cost effective gains with UTEC if you have some form of forced induction. Don't get me wrong, it's a great mid level tuning option. Just not N/A given the cost, IMO.
Learn from my mistake.

Robert I agree you won't make much more power with the 100 octane, but using higher octane fuel will make the factory knock sensor calm down and it definitely won't hurt performance So, just mix some 100 octane in to increase your margin of safety but if your tuning sessions are expensive, don't bother getting a whole new map.
Also I had no idea people were paying $600 for N/A tune, that's just nuts.
As I mentioned in my other thread, my EU tune was $240... but that was partially due to the fact that I had all issues ironed out before bringing the car in to get tuned.

No way should anyone pay $600 for a basic NA tune. That's just crazy talk. Unless you're running with ALOT of expensive mods, or paying that much to get the chance to sit next to the tuner to really learn what's going on, no way would i pay that much. I think $650 is what Sharif quoted me over the phone to tune my Greddy twins would cost? If i remember right, i think that was like 6 hours of dyno time and then a few hours road tuning??? Something like that? For that much tuning, $650 is nothing to spend for something that will help me sleep better at night.
