Default UTEC Map selector switch - does the car need to be running to change maps?

As the title states, does the car need to be running to change maps using the map selector? Can I change it with the car completely off (keys out and everything)?

I have 3 maps on my UTEC and don't want to be on the wrong one. Thanks.

You can change your maps at anytime. If the car is off the next time you turn the car on it will be on that map. If the car is running then it has to be under I believe 1600rpm to change maps.

Thanks...I know about the 1600 rpm deal. I switched the maps after I turned the car off and wanted to make sure it would take. I must have bumped the switch or didn't push the button down all the way one time....showed 1 on the switch and I was really in map 2. I guess that kinda made me paranoid about being in the right map. lol. Thanks bro.

You should have a working map in every position anyway, trust me, I learned from experience. Its not too hard to copy the maps over either. I went to www.turboxs.com and read the manual to figure out how to do mine.

How can reach the on-board map selector?
My setting is at Map 1 right now, and I need to put it back to Map 0(Factory ECU) until i get my car retuned.
Do I have to open up everything again just to do that?
Damn I should've wired a switch so I can change it easily...

I don't think a switch is that important, its not hard to reach, I have aswitch and I kind of wish I didn't, I'm always worried about hitting the switch on accident. I think the switch is nice if you change your maps a lot. Maybe if you go to the track a lot.

Yea, Im aware of where it is.
However, I can't just reach it because the back side with all the
serial port & USB port stuff is facing outward.
Do I have to dismantal the panels all over again just to switch the map?

If you don't have a map switch, and you must reach the UTEC to switch maps, your answer is yes. How else are you expecting the maps to change? For example, if you installed your UTEC in the trunk under the spare tire and wired it with explosives all while not installing a map switch, you'd HAVE to get out, go into the trunk, lift the tire, cut the red wire (it's always the red wire in the movies), then switch maps... EVERYTIME. This is why a map selector switch is so great to have. It allowes you to switch maps until your heart is content all from the comfort of your drivers seat.

I should have had my tuner install the map selector switch when they installed my UTEC

Do it yourself man. I did 100% of my TT install and EMS myself (plus a few friends who brought me beer from time to time). It's not hard and not worth paying someone to install a simple switch. Pull your UTEC one time, put the switch in and be done with it once and for all. It's VERY simple to do.

^ i agree, the switch is definatly not worth paying someone to install, its really not that hard. You can download the installation manual from www.turboxs.com too.
