F/I without a tune
I know that FI with a tune is really good, but without it, is it necessarily bad?
Not bad as in, bad dyno numbers, but bad like, rough driving, or atleast less than 75% of it's potential?
To be specific, it's the stage 1 positive displacement stillen supercharger. I am ordering it this spring. I assume they don't come with any sort of piggy-back ecu? I heard the term FMV thrown around I think. I remember it being a type of computer-related peice that came with some of the turbos.
Sorry for noobishness.

Everybody will tell you that a tune is mandatory for safety but I don't think it's necessary to have a good running car. As long as boost, a/f, and timing are conservative then running without a tune is doable. I'm running the out-of-box tune with my APS TT and the car runs great; no hesitation, no idle problems, nothing. I don't know what the Stillen uses for engine management so I'm not sure if it's a good idea in your case.

I know someone who has the GReddy TT for 6 months with no tune. He ended up having bad detonation and had to get a new engine. If you plan on boosting at all I would atleast get something to control timing, maybe Stillen comes with something already that control fuel?

This isn't always the case. A buddy of mine got the GReddy TT on his G35 for 8 months without a tune. True he was running it very conservatively, but he went about his business without any issues. His dyno numbers were crap for a $7000 upgrade, but hey that's what you get without tunning.

your car will most likely go
KABOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
o rly?
ya rly
the only real option I see that you can get away with without tuning is running the vortech out of the box kit. vortech out of the box is supposed to be safe to drive on untuned. But I believe it runs REALLY rich ....
I don't know exactly how the stillen SC deals with engine management, but stillen does have a phone number so why not give them a call...

Lest we forget - it all depends on the guy who's tuning it... Some would argue that an "out of the box" tune is better than what some shops are doing out there.
That said, do your homework in relation to the kit your going with and find the best tuner that you can.

Many Z's are running around without tunes. But if you want peace of mind and a much less chance of KABOOM then you really should get a tune. FI out of the box is reliable but each car is slightly different/unique so you just never know.
700 miles seems like a lot. There are no tuners anywhere in your state? You don't need to go to the manufacturer.... lol

yeah you would think that a city with a metro population of over 1million would have one. Buth there are no UTEC dealers in Kansas, Missouri, oklahoma, Iowa, or Nebraska. OH BTY Kansas City in in Missouri. Closest one is in Chicago.!!!! F$%K!!
And the funny thing about going to the manufacture is Prochargers world headquarters is less than 30 miles away and they dont tune their products. LOL I thought that was kinda funny.

Then prepare to spend a sh1tload of money. How about going with Sharif @ Forged Performance... if you let them build the motor and install FCON VPRO then you get a warranty with your F/I car
