ECU information needed, flashes, upgrades ect... Please =)
Just wondering if I could get some information on all this ECU talk, I did a search and read a few things about the AAM ECU reflash. Seems exspensive for what you get... What exactly do they do? Can we do it our selves or do you need a special computer/software?
What is the most popular one being used right now, for NA non rev Z's?
Sorry to be so confused, but I dont know much about the ECU flashes and what not, wanted to good information, I have read a few things, I like the AAM but just see it being too pricey for what you get, and its kinda hard to see or read about what they exactly do, so if you guys can fill me in on some info if you dont mind.

I don't know exactly what AAM reflash does. But I'll tell you what technosquare reflash does.
Sets air/fuel ratio around 13.0 which makes best HP for N/A
I think it makes a slight timing adjustment
Basically what you would end up doing if you got a UTEC or something...

if you're in So Cal, you should just roll over to Torrance and see Technosquare.

Technosquare, sounds like a great thing to look into, I was hoping there was something local to go check out, I need my car everyday so it would be hard to send my ECU out of state.
Setting the rev limiter higher would be a bad thing right, I mean they put a rev limiter there for a reason right? For long term I think it would do damage to the engine wouldnt it? (sorry to sound such like a newb)
So in turn, This would be a substantial mod to do, I always thought it was kinda lame to mod a car with boltons and not even get the full potential out of the car, and by doing this you can finally get every last HP/TQ out of what you spend.
One more question. Would it be pointless to do this to my car, I have NO mods.

as for no mods, you still get the benefits on advanced timing, the throttle body sensitivity change, and a more efficient running engine.. however you could feel more substantial gains if u add an intake, plenum spacer, and high flow cats then get a reflash.
if ur thinking about it, honestly i'd just recommend u go into torrance and speak to Tadashi about his tuning techniques and how he does it. that way you'll get a better understanding of what he can and can't do with a bone stock car.

Definitely check out Technosquare. I think it would be a waste of money to put it on a stock car. I would wait to at least put I/H/E and then have it done. I was reading somewhere, that this guy got the car back in the same day.
Before OBD2 ecu [prior to 1996] contained more safety reserve something like 10-15% to allow for sensor errors and aging. OBD2 requires back up redundant sensors so they can leave less and say they have more power..........why reflashes seldom create more than 5%.
A 1990-93 Q V8 went from 278 HP/290 lb/ft to 307 HP/320 lb/ft with just ecu reprogramming............those days are long gone when 30 units was available of anything for $500 thanks to tighter control and less safety reserve.

from what I've read, AAM and TS use basically the same thing to do the ECU flash...only difference will be location and the person doing it.
I just had my ECU flashed by AAM - since I live in Seattle, I'd have to send my ECU by mail...so I choose AAM b/c I've heard more good reports about their flashed and I've dealt with them in the past and had good experience.
