Default self-tuning at the drag strip?

Getting my utec tuner installed soon. I see alot of threads with people tuning on the street. Wouldnt a drag strip be a better place?

This is for N/A tuning btw

not really,........you need to take some nice long 4th or 5th gear pulls starting at a low rpm to get some nice useful logs....

also, I do alot of street tuning that is just for part throttle acceleration.... WOT tuning is only a small part of tuning....actually, it is the easiest part.

part throttle driveabililty takes alot of time if you are really doing it right.

Yes. That is what Test & Tune is for. Do some tweaking and run. Do a little more tweaking and run again.

+1, Find a dyno or a open empty road that has NO TRAFFIC whatsoever.

Street tuning (i.e. not WOT) can be a time consuming process, but it's worth it.

sure, you could do it on a drag strip if you don't mind looking like an idiot:

0. Start datalog
1. launch really slow
2. immediately shift to 4th gear
3. floor it
4. take it to to redline
5. roll through the finish line

If you don't care that other people will be asking "WTF is up with that guy" then go for it. Drag strip is definitely the safest place to do this.

I play with the UTEC at the drag strip. Just have everything ready to go when your in the staging lanes and then just hit the logger key when you hit the first stage light at the line. I use it to determine the differences between stock and my maps, not to make 4th gear passes, but I suspect it would work fine. The last time at the track I turned the UTEC on for the first time after make a few stock runs. Shifting at no more than 6750rpms I picked up an extra 1.5mph on my trap speeds over my previous bests ever.

Drag strip would be worse than the street. It would be a pain in the *** to keep waiting in line to go down the track. Street tuning part throttle can take hours to get it perfect.
