Default Beginner with utec???

Hi everyone,

I have just installed my Utec and tuner and loving everything to do with tuning it. A big thanks to Jeremy at Performance Factory for the utec and help with maps too. I've done a few logs and now waitin for a usb to serial cable to connect the utec/tuner/laptop for a/f reading.

Now i have been through the manual many times(honestly) but not to sure about setting the thresholds properly.

So here's my situation, i am running only 1 map atm and would like to have the map working on ECU while i'm cruising (fuel efficiency purposes)but be able to engage the utec instantly once i slam the throttle. Would it be better to set the rpm threshold low and throttle high or vice versa.

I read in one thread somewhere sayin the response time of the utec engaging is a problem(delay response) with the throttle threshold set to high, i would like to know more and comments on whether its a good idea to have a all-round map and what setting u guys use???

I have mine set at 30% & 2k rpm and I cruise around with near 14.7 until I hit it for passing. You'ld be surprised how far you can push the pedal without hitting the 30% mark.

Right now mines set at 70% throttle and 2,500 rpm. I live in mountain environment with plenty of hill climbs. Most of the time i need a average of 3000 Rpm and 60% throttle.

Mine is set to 2000rpm and 60% throttle. However, I am having an issue. You mentioned a delay in throttle response above and I initially thought "bull". However, this may be the cause of my problem. Sometimes when I am feathering the throttle near 60%, my power will fall radically and I will shoot to 16:1 AFR. This is OK for me since I am N/A. However, if I stab the throttle, it goes away.

At any rate, when you are cruising on flat land, even at highway speeds, you use very little throttle. Personally, I would recommend 2000rpm and 40-60% throttle. This will cause the UTEC to kick in only when you really want it to do so. You will also be able to stay in ECU mode most of the time.

Good luck.

Hi guys finally go the belkin/serial cable ready for tuning but the damn tuner wouldn't power up through the DB15 cable.

With ignition supply (from fuse box) and good ground to body through the DB15 cable it doesn't work but with the RJ12 cable to the utec it works perfectly every time. From what i have heard, the problem lies within the DB15 wiring harness???

I believe the tuner is alright and replacing the DB15 wiring harness first would be the first and most logical. I've emailed turboXS in Australia but will have to wait till monday for their response. I will try powering it through the 9v external supply tomorrow and see if i can get it to work with my Laptop.

Is there anything else i can do or someone i can contact???

Thanks
Ed

You Tuner doesn't have power? The power should come from the car, not the cable. It should be on when the car is on (thus powering the O2 sensor as well).

What i meant to say is that i've located power at the db15 cable which is disconnected from the tuner. The Red went to switched 12v supply and the white to ground. I'm now trying to find a 9-12v charging adaptor with the same size circular plug as the tuner. I'm hoping this works???
