Default Piggyback ECU

We are currently working on the development of a piggyback ecu for the 350z. I want to gauge the interest in this to see if it is worth the expense/time to develop. Who is interested in a preprogrammed unit that would be easily removed with a by-pass harness for going into the dealer? We plan to develop staged packages which would have different mapping depending on the mods already done. The unit would also be able to be removed and reprogrammed without any down time and minimal expense. We anticipate this selling for less than $1000. Let me know what your thoughts are.
Thanks

I'd be interested only if there was a way to tune it yourself so you can make changes. Mainly because I'm going FI and would like to put larger Fuel injectors in my engine. $1000 seems like a lot of money, but I really don't know for sure.

I'm interested (have a G35 6MT Coupe) but $1,000.00 - seems like a lot of money.

Personally I am not interested in an ECU mod that is more than 400 dollars based on what it actually does. Not much compared to say, anti roll bars for the same price, etc.

Just buy a Dastek Unichip and have it tuned to your individual car, not just some generic one size fits all program.

Thumbs up Good idea

Piggy back is good...

1000 is high...400 seems reasonable.. unless we could program ourselves based on upgrades, then 1000 seems marketable

If you made the stage upgrades refundable/ incentive based... that would be good too... (like I get the sport stage 1, but then add on exhaust and headers and etc..., I dont want to pay full price for a stage 2) this would help too...

I would be interested but would like to see the dyno.
basically, reset your ECU... and run it cold... you will notice a big difference than your previous runs..

For that money it would have to be user programmable IMO.

Unichip won't work for the Z at this time. I was trying to get it done about 3 months ago. I just returned their module today.

The unit we are currently working with is the perfect power setup. It is not a generic piggyback. It will be fully dyno tuned on my car with different maps being created. Typical units PREPROGRAMMED usually see for around the $700 range. The features and options are endless with this unit. You can run nitrous with it, additional injectors, etc. I can seel the unit itself for less but that would be for an unprogrammed "box" which would require many many hours of dyno tuning. It is going to cost us almost 2 grand to develop the correct maps. For example, with just this mod on a new mini cooper, they are getting around 20 hp. I should have it completed in a couple of weeks. I will also have pics of the new intake plenum anyday. I will be showing it at the Conn. meet this saturday.
Check out the computer.

Tell you what I would be interested in buying, an extension to the factory harness that we could hack into without touching the stock wiring. Just a plug and socket with about 6" of correctly colour coded wire in between.

I'll be interested to see this new intake plenum.

I have customers looking for this kind of product, but I feel you will need to get the price down a few hundred to make it a big seller.

We plan to make the reprogramming very affordable, just to cover shipping and a little of our time probably $50. You would still be able to drive the car while the piggyback is out so there is no down time like reflashing the stock ecu. I am not sure about the Nissan ecu, but from my experience with Subarus you can only reflash approx. 100 times before the ecu memory is fried and a new ecu is needed. With the piggyback this isn't a problem.

And as jay had mentioned this unit can handle nitrous controls and turbo wastegates etc. We would love to test it out head to head with the procharger engine management. ATI offers a tuner kit that doesn't include the fuel management and you can specify the boost you want to run. I was told that it can produce up to 40psi, anyone want to be a guinea pig?

We need test cars to produce mapping for the various mods, if anyone is in NJ and wants a custom tuned map specifically for their mods lets talk.

Mike

Count me in too.

Price would need be under $500 as well. For $1000 I would expect no less than a 50 HP increase.

Default By the way

Just to introduce him, MRC motorsports( mike) is my partner. MRC motorsports will specialize in 350Z performance. We are currently setting up business relationships with certain tuning shops and fabricators. This is the main reason I have been poking around about your interest in the intake plenum, headers, and now the perfect power piggy back. Within the next couple of weeks, we will have dyno results for many of the products we are testing and more info about the computer set up. Please feel free to ask any questions via this forum or email. For all of you that are attending the huge Northeast meet this Sat, I will have alot of the products on display and some for sale.
Thanks,
Jason
