Default Tuners advice needed

Recently I asked my local tune shop what we could do to get more power out of my TT Z, stock internals, these guys did the install of the TT, intercooling, exhaust about 2500 miles ago. He suggested return fuel, so we did, this caused large clouds of smoke out the exhaust when hard on the pedal. He then tells me that we need a better ECU for tuning and this will resolve all issues. I go ahead and have the Haltech Platnum installed, still lots of smoke. Very disappointed because of big costs and clouds of smoke. So I bought a built motor here on the forums and had a different shop install and tune. Very happy with the results but the new shop advises me of how poor the previous tune was which caused detonation, in turn cracking the rings on the pistons, making smoke.

I am hoping you Tuners out there can have a look at this Dyno chart with the original setup and give m your opinon.

Thanks Bill

What’s the point? I mean the original motor is gone right?

he needs to clean up that af. 11.5 to 11.7 is typically what i run. that **** dives to richness and starts walking up from there. you can gain alot more power out of the midrange by leaning it out. make sure the timing is not too aggressive being a stock motor. double check the egts also if you have an egt gauge.

What octane gas you are using? sub 10's is very rich IMO even at peak TQ. I would lean that and maybe 11.1:1 on peak TQ if you want some extra extra safety.. lol, I wont run sub 12's either on the higher rpm. The leanest I would run on my car will be 11.7-11.8 on the higher rpm without Meth.

the point is, the original motor is done, and the tuner should be on the hook for some of the $, being the consumer, i went to him, to my fault, believed he knew what he was doing....

94 Octane

I do appreciate everyones input, very informative, thank you

There is not enough information presented here to make a 'tuning' decision from. Yes, the AF could be cleaned up a bit, but timing is much more and we can't see that from 1 dyno chart. What kit and boost level? Email me a map.
