Default injector size

This might be a noob question but i have a single turbo z and im getting a utec and larger injectors, idk weather to go wit 440's or like 550's i was gonna go with the 550's but i heard u could have some hot start problems so i can settle for 440's if i can get like mid 400's whp, but i don't wanna be limited to under 400whp i would be happy as hell with 450whp. i didn't know if they would be maxed out be 4 that?

Rule of thumb is 1 cc = 1 hp for turbo setups. However, I think that's with the injector's being maxed out. I have 400's, and I can probably only hit around 350 hp (if that) without being totally maxed out. I plan on getting some larger ones in the future. If you really plan on hitting 450whp, you will want to get the 550's (or larger) and a return fuel system ($$$).

I had RC 650's and definitely had hot start issues.

OP, what turbo system are you using? If you are using the TN the larger injectors may be a waste. 550cc is about the max you can go without a fuel return system and you may want to consider it if your tuner recommends one. The hot start issue will definately happen with 600cc and over, but you may get it as well with the 550cc.

If you want mid 400whp then get the 550cc. What injector brand are you getting? If you want DW then 440cc will get max out at 370whp. Since you are in the NE then I suggest to go 550cc coz you'll need more fuel in the winter to compensate for the denser air. At temp below 40F my 440cc DW is max out at 7psi with Meth. Without meth then I'll probably max out at 6psi at temp below 40F. You can always go with the DW 440cc and get a fuel return so you can bump the fuel pressure..

440cc will not work for 450whp on a stock returnless fuel system, and even with a return you would have to crank up fuel pressure. I would recommend DW 600cc injectors, as they will give you a little breathing room even on the stock fuel system. If you are set on a UTEC, we can reflash your ecu to hot-start properly with the larger injectors. We have Deatschwerks 600cc injectors in stock here.

Props on that. When I talked to the guys that make the cable that you guys use (), they said I would have to take my car to them for a full tune just to get the injectors scaled. $375 is still a lot of money to simply scale injectors, but if that price ever comes down and I end up going back to larger injectors, I might be interested.

Thanks for all the help, with like 600's how bad is this hot start problem. If someone could describe it it would be great cus i can deal with having to crank the car a couple times to get going that really wouldn't bother me, If its like this crazy thing that takes like 20 min that's a problem. thanks again for all ur input

Not bad at all... All you need is just blip the throttle while starting and it will start right away. For some it is the end of the world... lol

ya, but i was under the impression it was like a 10-15 min ordeal of cranking. To me i think its worth it to get to the power. I drive my dads vet with a old big block and a manual choke that thing can get annoying if its like 20 degrees out lol

I've got the DW 600's and I had to crank the car for several seconds before it would catch and start running. Often times it would catch and just sputter at a few hundred RPMs for 5 or 10 seconds before going to a full idle. Depending on the sputter, I'd either turn it off and try again or give it gas to get up to idle.

A good tune should be able to scale the injectors properly as to minimize the hot start issue. I found answering the question "why won't your car start?" to be quite embarrasing.

My recommendation is to stay away from mail order flashes such as Technosquare if these types of details are important....unless you don't care about downtime. My tuner eventually flashed the hot start issue about 5 or 6 times.

Yeah, hot starts with my 650's weren't that big of a deal, but it was embarrassing. It would sometimes take me a few tries to get it started. Plus, when it does fire up, it throws some rich smoke out the back.
