Default My Haltech tuning adventure

Last night while talking to another member on the forum, I got the courage to install and tune my Haltech system. After reading the various webpages on tuning, I feel confident to begin. Understand that this is a slow process and hopefully I learn with the help from others.

I will initially begin with VE tuning application on the Haltech and post some numbers once I'm done.

Wish me luck

Well i almost forgot to mention that first im taking the UTEC out of the car as we speak. Taking a quick break because it is pretty warm today in VA. Currently the UTEC is uninstalled and I am about to install the Haltech. Looks like spagetti for a sec but its comming around quite nice.

Hey John great to see you. I remember speaking to you about my vortech in the pass.

Be careful man. There is very little room for error when tuning a forced inducted vehicle.

Thanks, I realize that everything is going to have to be done in moderation and methodical. I'm really going to take my time.

An update on what is going on though. As mentioned earlier, I finished removing the UTEC and started wiring up the wideband sensor. I went to the town council meeting so it set me back, also the rain. Tomorrow everything should be ready to button up and start my first day of tuning.

Turn the car on today with the Haltech installed and it started. I was excited I'm always just a bit scared when I install new things on the car for fear that something could have possibly went wrong, but it turned over and fired up. I have a CEL light on and when I tried to read the code it told me I had no faults. I dont know what that is all about.

The car is running ultra rich right now kicking smoke from the exhaust. The engine sounds strong and when I blipped the throttle it seems crisp though the car isn't under any load right now.

Everything is reading in metric also, I guess I'll have to change that in the main settings. The AEM wideband and what is on the Haltech screen are reading two different numbers also (could be due to the settings reading in metric). When I looked at the instructions for wiring in the UEGO it told me to use C9 and C7 which I did. I also looked at the settings and they are the same as what is mentioned in the instructions I received from Injected Pro website.

What I'll try and do is place the map as it currently is on the car right now and ask for feedback.

Regarding the AFR difference - have you set the calibration in the Haltech ECU Manager for the AEM wideband? It defaults to OEM Nissan cal.

If the tune is appropriate for the car and it is just a starting issue, then use Post Start Fuel Enrich under Fuel.

To change from Metric to whatever you want, go to Tools -> Options.

I do not understand where to change this. I looked on the Haltech website for installing the AEM UEGO and tried to set those values on the Haltech.

The car cranks to 1500 rpm and then dies. I'm trying to understand which cell should be increased or decreased.

I am not certain where on Haltech's website you looked... but you will need the AEM calibration information and enter it into the appropriate spot in the ECU Manager. This has changed depending on version, but most recently it is found under Main Setup 'O2 Wideband 1' and 'O2 Wideband 2'

As for post start, it is under the Fuel tree. Follow the blue dot when you start the car and beef that up. Again this will only work if the tune is off on post-start only. For cranking, see cranking. For warmup, see Fuel - Coolant Temp Corr. For warmed up, see Fuel - Base.

AEM UEGO Calibration:

Linear:
0v = 10afr
5v = 20afr

The site I looked at was Injectedperformance.com for the inital 02 wideband setup. I'll look under the those cells and see what happens.

In the car now. When I look at the O2 config its is at:

0v = 10afr
5v = 20afr

Went to the fuel tree and stared to gradually richen some of the cells. I followed the blue dot riched some of those and its doing the same thing. In the injector coloum it says i have 600 injectors when I have a diffrent injector.

So where ever the blue ball is going is what I need to correct? What is VE tuning? I have been reading about it in the manual. The car is idling now rough but its idling
