I really don't know a lot about tuning so forgive my ignorance.

One of the questions that I have is that when folks talk about an "economy tune" or "performance tune" what exactly do they mean? The performance tune I can understand, adjust the A/F until the car is making the most power. As I understand it, this would be a bit richer than than stoichiometric, high 12's or low 13's. While this may make the most power, it also burns more fuel than would be optimal for economy and emissions.

So, if you run a leaner mix, closer to 14.7, you would be running very efficiently but also running a lot hotter risking knocking under load. This would obviously be a bad thing. So what does an economy tune do? Can a tune be designed to run closer to stoichiometric under light loads and then set richer under higher loading?

Anyway, if anyone can help explain it to me using small words, I'd appreciate it.

 

I suppose a ecotune is a tune where you are trying to do both, economy and performance. I would say it could, I don't see why not. I think the question is how much performance you want because you can't do both in the end. I lean on the side of performance Just my 2 cents hope it helps. What fuel management are you using? Good question though.

I'm looking at Osiris, so I'll have the option of multiple tunes. Performance tune is easy, I'll run BSP next year with the Z, but want an economical tune for DD.

I will as well. However, I'd like to know as much as I can so I can at least understand what the tuner is telling me.
