Should I get a tune ??

Its just with Osiris there are only a handful (well more than that) who have licensing agreements to tune it. Utec is common on several platforms, and it is more likely someone closer to you will be familiar with it. The e-tunes are not ideal because Uprev will not play with timing (at least that is what they told me) because obviously it is dangerous to do so without the car in front of them or on a dyno. Thus, you are only going to get fuel corrections with the e-tunes. Even so it could take several attempts to dial it in (last I checked it was 2-4 weeks for a turn around per tune). I know Adam disagrees with me here, but it has been my experience that the transitions with utec are abrupt and clumsy (for lack of a better word). It can certainly be a case of who tunes it, etc, but in general this has been true for me. There is also a fairly common occurrence of hot start issues with the utec. Osiris is by no means the best in terms of tuning potential, but it is tough to beat for NA/bolt-on cars. Plus the price just dropped, and it isn't uncommon for a full dyno tune to cost $550 now.......whereas the utec alone will cost this much (without a tune).
3 hours isn't too bad.

They both work very well. They each have features that are appealing so it just coes down to you evaluating what suits your needs and budget, and future plans. The success of the tune is all in the hands of the tuner, it's not so much about what they are tuning with. My car ran as smoothly with a reflash, and a utec tune, and now a Haltech as it did when the car was brand new. I never had so much as a hiccup, hesitation.
The whole etune thing is really a personal decision. I can certainly understand and appreciate those who don't want to drive or pay for dyno tuning, or who are not local to a good tuner. In fact, we just had an etune done on one of our other cars (06 Civic Si) and it's been great. We will back it up with a dyno tune session at a later date, but for now, we needed something quickly since we installed a header and new exhaust, and it was short notice so we were not able to schedule dyno time.

You both have some great points. I think of it this way. If your going to do it, do it right the first time. I guess like you both said its what you want to accomplish and what you have available. I think I would rather go the route of the osiris with dyno tuning if i can find a licensed tuner that is. Its nice to have help on the forums from guys that have been there before.

03threefiftyz you are not exactly right about the utec and the problems associated with it. The OP is tuning N/A not FI so hot starting problems won't happen with injectors under 600cc. As for the transitions again N/A is not a problem either. FI theres more of a issue with it and still for the money it is not a bad ems for the money. I've been running a utec for years with my turbo kit.

I never said it was a poor ems for the money. Unfortunately both issues I spoke of were common with the NA cars as well. Tuned by differing shops also.......These were first hand experiences with friends cars. There were certainly a few that ran fine, but others that did not. It may have been defective units, but that wouldn't bode well for the reliability and system of quality control. I suppose it comes off as me having a negative perspective of the system, but I just feel Osiris is a better (cheaper) option. I may be bias, but it's just my opinion. However, I don't think you can really go wrong with either.

Im even more torn now than i was before i made this thread about which one to go with. I dont have any local tuners so the tune will either have to be done by me or from a company that sends me the map and then modifies it to my cars needs like my first replier said he could do. A dyno is avaiable if i absolutly need it tho
