Default Map - Posting board (idea resurrection)

Hi Guys,

I have searched and saw some of the board try to get this idea started, however it has fallen through each time (from the posts that I have read) largely due to not being able to post maps directly.

What about if say the board/mod manages a board-owned drop box account and then new maps can be posted via links to the drop box file? The nice thing about this arrangement is that you can keep the thread/sticky/quasi-database limited to information of vehicle, location, specs/mods, tune, ect and then provide a link that opens the download, hell have a sticky for each ems. The one thing though (that I can think of), is that this would mean someone with rights would have to load the tunes, but it could be in the same vein as how we manage 1/4 time posts.

It is just a simple thought that came up as i am looking into tunes and the ability of conducting map sharing as a form of a baseline or even a means of having cost effective tuning/sharing.

I am sure that there are some ethics behind this as we have sponsors, but it would be just that, canned maps and cant really replace a real time dyno tune, so there is consideration there.

Just a thought, if it is bunk, tried and tested, failed miserably, or just is not right per ethics, then understood.

Putting it out there...again

I like the idea to be honest and was surprised to find no one on here offers it. I know this idea is quite popular on other forums (i know for sure srt4 forums), but I dont think its not popular here due to bad idea ... I think its not popular here because majority of people on this forum dont seam to use uprev. A lot of these guys that run set ups like mine, N/A, dont tune the cars, just let them run as is. Osiris UpRev is quite expensive for the little product / support you get from them so not many people purchase it. I also know that these tuners here wont post it, as they know of the monopoly, and why would they? Thats how they make money. Its going to take a good amount of dedicated people to get it going, and even then it has to be a give take relationship, cant just take take take ya know?

Usually people pay to have good tune r spend a lot of time to make itself.
So usually are not so happy to share maps with others...

I think it's clear the motivation...

I definitely see a lack of it on our boards/communitty...but most likely it is to has something to do with the other point made, not too many people tune NA so the candidate pool for it just gets smaller.

Most boards I have been apart of for my various vehicles have map sharing in some form or other, hell Supra forums and NAT boards share maps all day long.

I understand the concept of others possibly not wanting to share after they have made an investment, but something is clicking right on other boards where people just dont mind sharing.

In regards to motivation...it is obvious lol!

while theres no database for it i think alot of members would be receptive of emailing them i know me and binder have both shared our maps(well i ss my timing to him since thats what he wanted.) and i have no problem sharing my map with someone who has a similar setup. or heck if they just wanted it at the warning its not even close to finished.

Yea, I think it is just that we dont have a huge list of individuals that have conducted custom tunes.

Sort gets filtered: 350z buyers>year/model>owners that modify>to what extent>that are board members>who see this thread>who is willing to share>who isnt too lazy

I know that we all have our moments of laziness lol!

Kind of pointless for Osiris. You get a very nice basemap already (it's called the stock map). Once you start throwing F/I mods at the car everything it out the window... no base map is going to get you what you are looking for, which is a proper dyno tune. I guarantee you there's no car out there that is going to run correctly on my current maps.

I dont agree that it is pointless as it provides an alternative for NA apps. With that said, custom dyno tunes will be superior for obvious reasons.

The concept is tried and true as companies and existing boards provide canned tunes which are better than what other have without a tune.

No attitude in my response, just sharing a perspective relati.g to tbkse without the ability to get a custom tune for whatever the reason

even if it was just a base map to get everything up and running? alot of times its just too get the tune in the ball park area, or atleast be able to run safe till they can get to they dyno.

For N/A I can see the value... but F/I is a whole other story.

To answer the base map comment -- The safest thing to limp to the tuner is the stock MAP..it'll work for injectors up to 800cc or so. people have been doing it with UTEC's for ages . Stay out of boost and heavy throttle your engine isn't going to grenade. If you want to go all out leave the stock injectors in and swap them out before the dyno.

When you buy the tuner package from osiris it doesnt even come with a base map ... once you flash it onto your ECU it erases everything and you start from the ground up...

Nope, you get the OEM factory map on the base ROM.
