Default Utec fuel map changes not having affect

I just wasted a weekend and lots of money on a dyno. For some reason when I make changes to the fuel map, nothing happens. I could make changes to the 0% column work, but no matter what else I did, the dyno's afr line stayed the same.

I thought the map was bad or something so I tried going off the greddy spring pressure and using the maf to tune, that didn't work either. Speed density or maf, I made huge changes and got no difference.

The weird part is that the boost map made changes. Also, when I changed base maps, that took effect. For example, the aps map ran really lean, and the turbonetics ran very rich, but no changes to the fuel table would take effect to either one.

Does anyone have any clue if something is wrong with my setup/procedure? Our is my utec bad?

I spent 13 hours on the dyno in 2 days, so I paid a reduced dyno time cost.

I live in MT so I dont really have the luxury of a big name utec tuner. We have to read up well on the ems, then work together on making changes. Which has always worked well on my previous setups and others ive helped with.

We had good results right away. Made 419.3 rwhp on the aps base map, but it ran 17.4 afrs. So theres power to be made, but I cant add or subtract any fuel. I went back to that aps map and it wont rev past the utecs open loop threshold. That led me to believe the map sensor was bad but we couldnt get any changes to take tuning via maf either.

were you seeing 100% load at your max rpm/boost?

Str8dum, I will do a short road test when I get home and check. I just watch the load site on dashboard right?

yes. if your maps arent scaled properly, and max boost isnt set, you will have a hard time dialing in your fuel

Ok, so I set the min map to 0 and the max map to 5 so as not to push too much air at my poor untuned car. I set the threshold to 0. I left the boost map on all ecu to go off spring pressure of 5.6psi. I apllied throttle vigourously. I saw 5 psi. Load only got to 70% then dropped to 60% again as I was still accellerating nearly to redline. Dashboard said I was having knock events. So I went home.

What do you make of that?

well if max boost is set to 11, then 6 psi is pretty close to 60-70%. So thats ok.

So you are saying if you change the fuel tables in the 10-100% range, you never get a change in AFR? How are you combining AFR with your UTEC logs?

I had the max map for mapping set to 5 instead of 11. When you say "max boost" are yoy talking about a different parameter than the max map?

Yes, no change in afr.

Im not sure what you mean by combining logs and afr....

Looked at my map reading on dashboard and it read -2 with the car off. That was with the calibration that came on the card. I really don't like running the car in its current state, esp. Since out requires me to put the car in boost. So I couldnt do the calibration. I just messed with the gradient and intercept until it read 0. Now when I idle, the -psi reading I get is about half the in/hg on my gauge, which is correct. This may explain why I only reached 70% load.

I am still able to make changes to the 0% column. I havent tried the other columms again yet.

Sra8dum1, As far as combing logs and afr, I was just cross referencing the afr line in dynojet to the logs. I think thats what you mean.

Any ideas at all?

Update: I am now hitting 100% load with my new map calibration. I am going to do another road test to see if I can make any changes take effect. I am going to watch my map on dashboard to double check the calibration too.

Were you saving/applying the changes after making changes? It has to drop to a specific RPM and will nearly stall when you do so (have to blip the gas as you save it). The UTEC doesn't to 'real time' tuning; you have to save changes each time.

Dj, yes. I have been saving fine.

Now that ive carefully set ALL the parameters, my changes are taking effect. I can make it run all through the rpms, richen/lean.... Funny how it works when ya do everything right.

Str8dum1 had it right. On the dyno, I was running greddy and aps startup maps. I dont know what the aps runs for boosr but the greddy is 3-22. My map was reading -2psi and I was running 5psi. So the utec only saw 3psi....

Im embarrassed...

good deal. the UTEC is so straightforward once you get the params setup properly.

good luck
