Question Do I need a tune? + Other questions..

Hey everyone,

So I have a 2006 350z with about 54k on the dash and 34k on the motor (replaced at 20k under warranty). So far I have added on the MREV2, 5/16th plenum spacer, an exoticspeed exhaust + y-pipe, and an AFe pro-dry drop in air filter.

My questions are the following:
-At this point do I need to get a tune to protect the engine?
-If I went and got an uprev tune would I see any noticeable gains?
-Is it worth the extra cost to get it tuned on a dyno vs. an e-tune?
-Are there any other mods I should consider getting before I get a tune? (I cannot put on high flow cats as no shop will touch them in VA due to emissions regulations).

Thanks for your help!!!

i honestly wouldnt bother with the tune until you touch your cats, either swapping them out for test pipes or hfcs. you will be a little lean right now but not that noticible

just do the swap to hfc yourself. It wasn't too hard. I did mine a couple months ago.

Some shops will install them, you just have to call around the local shops(I got when I had 2 bolts left).

I'm currently getting E-tuned and almost done. I have felt a great improvement so far.

Default HFCs

Alright, that makes sense. I can't install the HFCs myself because I live in an apartment that does not allow us to work on our cars in the lot (strictly enforced) and everyone I know lives in apartments as well.

If anyone knows of a shop in the D.C. or Charlottesville, VA area that will install a set of HFCs for a reasonable price let me know. Otherwise I'll just ask around.

Thanks!

When I uprev'ed (Etuned)my stock car, I could feel an improvement on throttle response ( I did my own throttle setting ) and increased some values on Torque management settings and it is really night and day difference for daily driving... BTW, I do not have a Z , but have the same VQ35HR engine 5 AT Infiniti EX35 AWD crossover. Almost 2 tons in weight.
The stock Cipher 0-60 run was just high 6.4x -6.7 secs. Uprev made it to 6.3 secs flat. Currently, after adding a bit of line pressure (Torque management) and replaced my spark plugs etc.. I managed to log a 6.16 secs (with spare tire, 1/4 fuel) 0-60 MPH. Granted, this is almost 4,000 pounds car! Car is almost at 70K miles now.

OP you don't "need" a tune, but it will make a big difference. Your car will be much more fun to drive.
