I have a cobb accessport that isn't working properly. Basically I try to switch maps on the fly and its says fatal error has occurred. The hand held unit gives me all the data etc but won't let me switch maps.I already know that that's not a good sign and if I were try to un install the COBB tune from my car and it crashes I will have to get a new ecu or reprogrammed at minimum?!?.
So my question is. I'm about to go get my car tuned with Osiris for my procharger set up and want to know if there will be any issues when my tuner goes to install the program.
Hopefully someone has a definite answer for me as I don't want to spend the $150 usd to send my unit in just so I can uninstall it.

You may want to ask your tuner if he knows. Also, I would try calling Cobb for support. Never used the Cobb on the Z, only the Subaru.

 

i switched from cobb to uprev due to blown ecu. not sure if it will overwrite, but if you are really trying to switch maps "on the fly" on the cobb, thats your problem. cobb is not capable of doing on the fly map changes. you need to turn the car off, then change maps. but beware, as changing maps is when it will go bad.

 

Thanks for the replies,but does anyone know if UPREV will write over COBB.I'm thinking its possible due to the fact that you can flash over an UPREV tune.

Oh and JDM-V35 my unit even gave me a fatal errror message when I tried to adjust my timing under the "Tuning" option lmao...So I'm about 80% sure that if I were to try and uninstall the Cobb software it would crash and I'd be in need of a new ecu.I contacted COBB a while back about the issue and they told me to send them the unit in and for $150 usd they would upgrade the dongle/get ride of the two piece dongle cable.The rep seemed quite sure that's were the problem lies as the hand held unit still gives me live data etc.Kinda seems stupid to pay $150 for something I'll never use again.

 

I would think Cobb has your ECU locked, Just like anything. You need to unlock your ECU before you can rewrite on it.

 

You can try and reflash it with Uprev, it might work or it might brick your ECU and you'll have to mail it to Uprev for them to hotwire and bring back to life. No way to know if it'll work or not until you try. Uprev will officially tell you to not try and reflash any ECU that is not completely returned to stock, but I have done it before.

 

I would remove the cobb first

 

Thought I'd update this just incase someone in the future looks this up and wants to know the answer.
Osiris will NOT over write a COBB tune.The Accessport tune had to be removed in order to flash my ecu with UPREV. Funny thing is I had spoke with COBB and the guy I spoke with seemed quite sure that you could flash over it. Thankfully the COBB successfully uninstalled.After two long years of waiting my Z is FINALLY boosting haha.
