I'll be the first to admit, i am an absolute noob when it comes to tuning. I have an 03 350z touring and i want to starting having some fun with it. From what i have read, without getting neck deep, a solid intake, exhaust, and ecm remap seems to be the way to go.

First question - if you had lets say $2000 to put in your z, whats the best bang for the buck?

Second Question - I'd like to get a dyno run in on the car before i start messing with it but everyone wants to charge $500+ for a "dyno tune" around here. I'm in Cleveland, Ohio; does this seem about right for pricing or do you think i could get away with just getting the test run in for a lot cheaper?

First question: without getting neck deep, the OEM intake box is "solid" and better than many aftermarket units, Nissan did a pretty good job tuning the VQ and you should save the $2K for refreshing the suspension and brakes OR use it to take some high-performance driving lessons so you can really use what the Z already has.

Second question: it's a good idea to get a baseline dyno on your Z to get a better idea of how your Z is currently performing. Seek out some of the enthusiast car clubs and find out of there's a dyno day scheduled with one of them. Here in Colorado, a dyno day might provide 2-3 pulls with documented results for $120-150 per car.

thanks for the advice. I was figuring $100-$150 for a dyno run but couldn't find anything to confirm my suspicions.

 

$100-150 is not the standard price for even a couple of dyno runs in my experience. But that's the discounted rate if you can find a car club or group that can get cars on and off the dyno in relatively quick and orderly fashion. Call it a discount to give some exposure to the business.
