Mazda RX8! ? !
I'm new the forum so please forgive me if the questions I am about to ask offend/bore/frustrate anyone !
The bottom line is that I can't decide wether to buy the Mazda RX8 or the Z.
If i had to order the Z on Monday morning, when could I expect delivery?
I know the Z will be faster than the RX8, but what has been the main attraction to Z? On the RX8 forum, guys love the light weight, the rotary motor, and the practicality of 4 doors and 4 seats.
Help me!
Cheers

Hi Ed,
I had exactly the same problem, except that I also had the Chrysler Crossfire in the mix. I think all three look fantastic and this was confirmed after seeing both the Crossfire and the RX8 at last years motorshow.
I eventually discounted the RX8 after the specs. were reported. this was due to the very low torque of the engine. I think because of this the car will only perform well when you are hitting the rev limiter in every gear, great fun sometimes, but would get a bit tiresome after a while (a bit like the Honda S2000).
I am still tempted with the Crossfire as I think the build quality will be excellent, but then again I think it will be a cruiser rather than a bruiser like the 350Z.
To order a 350Z now you are probably looking at up to 12 months for delivery. You could always get yourself an RX8 to play with in the meantime though!.

thanks for the reply. The problem of course it that it looks like ordering a RX8 will result in a 8-12 month wait too!
The 350 looks the part, aggressive, fast; and when I saw (must have been an import) off the A40 last week, i couldn't believe the road presence it held. It looked so much more aggressive than the Boxter behind me. And of course, I nearly broke my neck getting a good at it!
What i like about the Z is that it is a sports car, far better than the TT and the S2000. The Boxster is a great car but I think the Z is a better car.
I like the RX8 because its more practical and its lighter, which means it'll go around corners faster, it will behave like a normal hatchback on the Highstreets and when you decide to open it up, it will spin to 9000rpm...to crazy speeds! I think the quality is better too, judging by Car magazine etc etc.
My heart is going for the Z though, my wallet is going for the RX8, my wife is going for the Porsche! Help!

Personally I love the Z! I went through the same thoughts. Then narrowed it down to 2 cars. Z & G35 Coupe. I decided I didn't need the practicality of 4 seats and went with the sportier car. Check out the G, its a great car too.

I went through all of this as well a couple of months ago. [Z, RX8, Crossfire, BMW, TT etc etc etc]. My advice would be.....decide which one you REALLY want! Then go for it!
I decided on a Z because theres just something about it that made all of the others seem plain.......i havent seen one in the flesh but the pictures kept me coming back.
I ordered 3 weeks ago for an April 04 delivery.....not got confirmation in writing yet though........ and now i'm not sure about this orange leather that i've ordered......

Hi Ed,
Although you'd have to wait 12 months for a Z if you ordered one today, there are some imports knocking around for sale (2nd hand as well as new). I've also seen someone selling their UK Z, which arrives in October:

I expect you will see a couple more UK cars for sale after October too - must be a few toerags buying just to sell!

Thanks girlracer. I called an importer and he said about 6-9 weeks delivery with an expected cost of about £22. Not bad for the 'standard' version. He explained that the car is bought from an auction site....very confusing. Very attractive way to go, but then again, it will still be just a 'import'
