Test Drove a Z and a RX8
I took lengthy test drives yesterday in both a 2003 touring Z and the new RX8.
I don't claim to be any expert at comparing any two cars. I just thought you might be interested in just a few first impressions.
-The Mazda RX8 interior is a little roomier than the Z. For a 6' 4" person like myself, the RX8 had more general room for my torso and legs. However, the roof, which had a sunroof, was a little closer on the RX8. In general the interior of the RX8 was pretty nice. However, making it a 4 seater was kind of ridiculous.
-When it comes to the eterior, the Z has it beat hands down. The Z is simple a great looking car. The RX8 has some clumsy elements to it.
-Driving. The RX8 manual in clean and smooth. The Rotary engine is smooth with a nice whirling sound. The Z is probably not quite as smooth, but I favored the overall sound of the engine over the RX8.
I am still very much a Z fan and hope to get one over the next 6 months or so. I just want to test drive a Roadster before I make any final decision.
I'll be intersted to hear other points of view from those who have a chance to drive a RX8.:icon4

I had a chance to test drive the RX8 about 2 months ago.
Power and torque: RX8 is anemic...definitely needs a turbo.
Handling: RX8 stock suspension is much better than the Z... I really liked it... felt good with excellent feedback.
Steering: about the same.
Seats: stock seats in the RX8 are better than the stock seats in the Z, IMHO.
Interior: Z is much better.
Exterior: RX8 isn't in the same league...Z is the winner hands down.
Overall... Z of course !!

I have a 350 Track and my wife has a RX8 six speed with the sport package. I like them both but it's very apples and oranges. The Z has a completely different texture, the steering; shifting everything has a higher level of effort, which I like a lot. The RX8
has more asst in all areas which takes away from the experience
to me. The RX8 was aimed alot closer to mainstream than the Z was. I'm waiting for the Next 7 (if ever) before I really compare.

mmmm...RX-7....
I've started to see a few 8's on the road, and I think they look OK. I still don't like the four door dealy.
I'll have to go try for a test drive. Should be pretty fun.
