I wish it were as simple as just milling new bolt holes in the manifold but this new manifold is made of both steel and plastic in such a way that drilling off set new holes is not so simple... or even possible. Some could be milled and others can't.

On the all aluminim DE manifold it would be a piece of cake, but not on this new one. If you could hold and see a HR manifold in person you would be able to easily see why. Explaining it via text here would be complicated without drawings or pictures.

As far as the HR or VHR having more FI potential I'll wager on the VHR being able to do more. If they put the VHR engine in the GTR it will have to have more potential.

Only time will tell. If Nissan ever actually produces a GTR.

The benefit of the variable valve lift is that you eliminate the loss due to the throttle body, but to resist boost and control throttle you'd need a stiffer valve spring wouldn't you? Thats more draw on all the cams, and would (at least I would think) eliminate the benefit. Plus its more moving parts.

I mean, maybe there is more power had that way, or better emissions can be achieved, but I just don't know - especially for aftermarket, and having watched the BMW tuners turn there heads at the valvetronic motors.

I wonder why? Untapped potential and Nissan doesn't want it de-throwning the soon to be 370Z?

I need to get my Z back from GTM. It's getting a MOTEC installed so I won't have to fight against all the uncertainty and random changes the ECU likes to make.

Better repeatability on the dyno means I will be able to dial in better gains. (due to greater certainty of the changes seen on power curve)
And there are a few more interesting details I want to try on the dyno before putting it into production.

Must be certaint of the gains made. Gotta get the MOTEC!

We have to wait and see if they are putting the same manifold into the next gen Z.

Nissan tweaked the 3.7VHR manifold so it wouldn't be interchangable with the 3.5 HR manifold.

This project can't be started if they come out with a 3.8 liter engine with a different manifold on the next generation Z. We will have to wait and see what the next Z brings for 2009.

just not fair I tell yea just not fair .....

What about the 37hr is different other than the top being dished? I know you tried to mod one to fit did that ever work?

No, it couldn't fit.
If it did, one mod could have been used for both engines.

Next question ... You say the top of the 37hr intake is dished so why not put that top on a hr base? If the bolt holes are the only difference then this should not be that difficult

Yes I know it is plastic and glued together.

I tried that.
If you could see and compare the bolt holes for youself you would see that the Nissan engineers intentionally did it in such a way that:

1) The stock plenums can not be interchanged.
2) They overlapped the bolt holes in such a way that even if a new manifold is designed it can only be one or the other.

Well the bolt holes would be on the lower half of the 35hr intake... If you look close at the HR composite intake it is two halves glued together. Basicly a two part intake. seperate the lower half from the upper half a do the same to the 37 hr intake. Swap and glue it back together. I am talking very generic of course. I think there are some simple/profitable changes you can do that will benifit the HR engine.

Cuting or separating the manifold is not possible without destroying it.

You have to think out side the box. Hot Blade take a minute or two ... clean cut and then cut a grove for the sealent and reseal. This is plastic and with the right epoxy the seal will last forever.

One better get a plastic mold for a new top and have it shaped completely different. The plastic part of this opens up new doors that people that are use to handleing metal dont think about. I am not implying anything just this can be done right and cheap. Once the mold is made it would be a matter of putting out enough to cover the cost of the mold. Average mold can produce 10,000 unites priced at 100 dollars for the swap and you have 1,000,000. You sell only 5000 at that price and you 500,000. You would only need to sell 100 to cover the price of the mold. You design a top that benifits the 35 and the 37hr engine.

You need to get both of them in your hands to see what they are and how they go together.

Even if I could force one to work, it doesn't make it viable or practical for production purposes.
