Thanks... I try. Like I said before, I'm trying myself to stay up with it as much as possible because I might be getting back into a Z.

actually the website keeps a record of every IP address you've ever used... and making a new name to circumvent a ban is grounds for IP ban, just a fact not a threat

Good thing 95% of internet users don't have static ip addresses?

True, but that is still not enough anonymity to prevent us from figuring out who you are, believe it or not. The only way to ensure we can't trace you is probably to use a different proxy every time you log in. That would be very time consuming so if you really want to raise hell by doing so, I guess you have way too much time on your hands

Not to derail this already derailed thread but...since most internet users are assigned a new new IP via the ISPs DCHp server, how could you know?

The pool of IP addresses may not be as big as you think it is. Can people get away with crap a few times? Probably. But if they keep posting from 2 accounts over the course of a couple weeks or so they are 99% going to get caught. Often times these IP addresses repeat themselves.

It's not impossible to fool the system perfectly, just time consuming... so time consuming that I don't think most people would have the patience for it.

As a software engineer, I am quite familiar with IP assignments. I am just not 100% certain that banning via IP is the best way. granted, some people just need to be banned via what ever means possible.

it rarely comes to that, but yes you're right, sometimes it's the only way. I think ONE TIME we had a complaint because somebody got IP banned and someone else from the forums worked at the same building as that guy, so the good guy inadvertently got banned. that was probably the only incident that ever came from IP banning

Updated.

Any info that isn't in here that you would like added in, let me know. That doesn't mean ask if something is available... TELL me something is, and give me PROOF.
