Default Is it worth it to buy an HR?

Im considering buying another Z and I could easily buy a used 07 as opposed to an 03-06.
I read the thread that says what IS and IS NOT availible for the motor, however I'd like to know if any tuners or people have expressed any idea of whether the 07 HR motor will ultimately produce MORE power with the same mods (i.e. a single turbo kit) than the standard motor.
Will it respond better to F/I? All Motor? etc?
Anyone know or have speculations?

Definitely worth it. I just got back from the track and ran some good times compared to the 03 and 04's that I raced. I'll start my time-slip thread tomorrow morning in the drag forums.

Bottom line...the 07's are the fastest. Once you get one, you'll be glad you got the 07!

What did you run?
I ran a 13.81 all stock in my 03 track. So I'd just like to compare because drag racing is (to me) more driver than car.

^^
I ran 13.7. I'm an amateur. That was with my weaksauce 2.2 60'.

Keep in mind track prep conditions, temperature, humidity, altitude etc.

There were plenty of 03 and 04's who could NOT break into the 13's tonight. I was the only Z to do so (hint: I was the only 07)

Yeah I cut 2.0 60fts pretty consistantly so if you ran 13.7 on a 2.2....
Thats not bad ... and yeah TX is prolly a little nicer this time of year than I dealt with when I ran, but still (it was like August in PA here).

Yes, HR is worth it , I think they sound slightly better too, probably because theyre pushing more air through the exhaust. I ran a 13.8 with my auto 07 in the summer with bad heat and humidity and no brake torqueing. Was my first time also, and has 3k miles on it.

They're certainly a little more potent in stock form, and after bolt ons as well. And therefore Im sure they'll make a little more power once turbocharged as well.

Agreed, that the driver can greatly impact the drag times. Trap speed is the best indicator of true hp. Stock HR's are trapping between 103-107 mph. Do the math.

I had a 2004 with exhaust intake headers pullies

My 07 has just an x02 exhaust.. i never even installed the k&ns .. and the 07 with just an x02 is faster then my 04 with all the other stuff.

If you are going sure you want a Z then yes, its worth it. Regardless of putting down track times, the hr's are more fun to drive with the higher redline. My opinion at least. I've always had cars that redlined at 6200 and when i got my Z(HR redlines at 7500) i was like *WOW THIS THING SCREAMS!*

HR ftw! someone said that a bone stock z would beat an 06 revup with 5k into it (n/a)... thats pretty badass... my bone stock z whoops the sh*t out of my buddies wrx with DP back exhaust, intake, and sticky tires on it (back when my car was stock...

Definitely worth it. Just look at the drag times. My car has more in it (grand touring wheels so it won't show on stock list) but I didn't get the conditions to run in.

Best part is they now have a voluntary recall for the clutch issue.

There's more than one reason the HR would be the better choice.

1 - The car is new compared to a used DE.

2 - It's superior as far as the drag strip is concerned (13.2 ET's and 107 traps stock FTW).

3 - It's making great power with just simple bolt-on exhaust pieces (the DE can't touch the numbers the HR is making).

4 - The engine is 80% different, and all the differences are for the better.

5 - The block seems to be reinforced better than the DE blocks (according to Sharif), and the rods are longer which means it might be able to handle more boost without giving up.

6 - The hump is teh buttsecks.

honestly if youre thinking about Force induction get an older model and build it. I think there will be minimal difference once you go that route.

if u wanna get every performance part out there for ur z the instant u get it, then get a de, but if u have patience it wait till more parts are developed, then get the hr

also, as far as boost goes, all of the info out there so far on the hr's is just speculation, as there aren't any boosted hr's out there yet. there is a supercharged one by novidem (spelling?) in europe (germany i think), but nobody has any info on it
