SO i filled my gas on Wednesday and today is Sunday. i drove my Z for 5 days knowing i will be on the highway 95% of the time..
With a full tank, driving 58-60mph MOST of the time for these 5 days....... i am at 386miles with the dte blinking at 20. Im assuming i can reach 400 but filled up my tank before i reached 400.
during these 5 days, i had to eat rice 2wice one the highway around 3am on the highway touching 95mph for like 30 seconds before i calmed down.
thought it was hard to control myself these 5 days, i think 58mph on average is the majic number.
note: the tempreture in chicago was between 21-34F throughout and i got such gas mileage..........i wonder what people in the west coast would get with their HR?!??!?!?!?!?!?

I haven't payed much attention to my gas mileage, i just dont really care
But I have noticed that anything about 3,000 rpms on the freeway and the gas mileage drops significantly.

what was the average mpg you got? does the HR engine suck that bad?
i can get 400+ miles out of a tank easily... by the time my dte warning starts flashing at me im usually at about 420 miles on the tank.

Since old EPA defined highway as a near steady 51-59 mph average 55 mph and not to exceed 61 mph in a pass...............don't you think oem would optimize MPG in that range to score highest MPG on sticker?
Remember 16.5000001 MPG = 17MPG on sticker.
Sometimes engineers have to move heaven and earth to improve 0.0002 MPG to save thousands x car number sold in Federal Tax. [Gas Guzzler Tax]

This is what I got this weekend.
18.8 mpg in 250 miles after towing a tire trailer about 85-90 miles to an event, 13 runs (2 drivers), 5th & 13th of 67 in raw time, back home at a minimum of 80 mph (still towing the trailer) plus a 60 mile round trip to work. The HR is pretty good on gas but my 03 Z would have been around 21 - 22 and we would have been 8th & 15th.

I drive 50 miles one way to work, and i had some time to try this out. I found that while going 74-76mph I was getting 29-31mpg. That's with my tires at 34 in front, and 38 in rear with 65 deg weather (Atlanta morning). Also, with 93 octane I get about 430 miles to a tank.

first off the z gets wonderful gas mileage considering the engine i made it from willow springs racetrack in southern california to san jose on 3 quarters of a tank. i was going 70. between 65-70 you can get around 25-30 depending on driving conditions. i personally drive my car slow on the highway because i see no need to rush anymore, when i want to thrash the car i take it out to special places or tracks. but ya when i first got it i drove it like a stole it and go through a tank of gas in one weekend, worst gas mileage i ever got was under 10. i only complain about gas when im not working, otherwise i bought a z to enjoy it not to drive it like a luxury car.

someone on here referenced the owner's manual, and talking about being in sixth gear by 40 mph. I've done this for a while now, and it figures out to be shifting right at 2000 rpm every gear. I also always cruise highways at like 62mph. I've averaged like 450 miles per tank for the past 3 or 4 fill ups now. Just my .02.

Dang you guys are lucky. I live in LA and with the traffic here I barely get 250 miles with a tank and that's on the freeway with like 25% of the time is traffic.

I don't know what you guys are doing but I get way more miles to the tank then that. when I'm going on long trips on the interstate i.e. just off the interstate to the gas station and right back on I get well over 500 miles to the tank. I get just over 400 - 420 miles around town just going back and forth to work all the time now. I can go over 2 weeks between fill ups.

I posted this in its own there elsewhere in the forum...This is my gas consumption and stats from the last 4 months since I got my 08 base model. My current commute is 3 miles round trip, and it doesn't give the car enough time to warm up, so towards the bottom, the gas mileage is lower.
Ignore the price per gallon for 9/20.
I reset my trip meter and trip computer each time I get gas and fill up to the first click, wait a moment, and grab the handle until the second click.
I've made a column that calculates a percentage difference between the measured and the trip computer readout. Another column marks any changes that might affect MPG or driving habits, such as moving to LA.
Prior to moving to Los Angeles, I'd drive 3 hours (~120 miles from Palm Springs) to Los Angeles to hang out for the weekend, at least once a month.
The alignment was for abnormal tire feathering.
The trip computer is fairly accurate, given that it deviates only a single percentage point vs measured MPG. Gas pumps are calibrated differently from station to station, so the OBC might be more accurate in some cases, though we'll never know since there's no absolute way to guarantee the same amount of gas in the tank every time without going to the same pump, in the same weather, over and over.
If your driving habits are inconsistent, the computer has less data pin down your MPG. For example, the reading will be inaccurate if you drove 10 miles in the city, then take a 20 mile freeway drive and get gas, you may have a larger difference in MPG reading than say, if you drove 400 miles on the freeway, then got gas.
Edit: My switch to 10w-30 Mobil 1 synth (I accidentally bought it instead of 5w-30) isn't documented. It didn't make an appreciable impact on gas mileage, but the car does idle a bit smoother.
