Worn engine bearing warrant full motor replacement?!?
Recently my car's rpms and oil pressure would drop to zero causing the car to shut off here and there b/w shifts (usually if I was in 5th and threw it into neutral to cruise the the red light). I took it in and they said the "motor bearing" has gone bad and that I would need a whole new engine at $12k!
I didn't get a chance to talk to the mechanic yet just the lady who makes the phone calls. I will call monday to see exactly what the deal is.
Im not to sure about a "motor bearing" as im not that engine savy, is she talking about a rod bearing by any chance? If so isnt there more than one?
My main question is, can't you just replace the bearing(s) that are bad? I just cant understand the need to replace the whole engine, at the most just new pistons/rods/bearings?
Sorry for rambling, I am just really confused and in disbelief....

is your HR not under warranty?
A private shop could probably disassemble and rebuild it cheaper... the dealer probably just replaces the motor vs. diving into the internals.

The lady is talking with nissan to see if it will be covered under warrany (04 w/ 24k). The thing is I have a vortech on it and thats what they are saying will void it.
If I have to pay for new internals I'd def. rather go aftermarket

Start looking around for reputable shops to do a full rebuild.

this is the hr section, not the general section
but anyway, sounds like you'll need a rebuilt engine, the closest shop to you with a rock solid reputation is performance factory, you should have no problem finding them in the fi forum
