do you just tape off the area you don't want painted and simply just brush on the paint? Do you have to put on a basecoat then a second coat? Primer or anything else? kinda new to DIY

well i just scuffed with a grey scotch bright and then I cleaned it with some wax and grease remover. then i sprayed 3 coats of red base, and then a flattened clear coat. and yes tape off the area you do not want to spray ie the black plastic. make a edge around the area being painted then behind the taped line tape some masking paper around it. then start to spray.

I love how people tell you what color you should have done! LOL, it looks great man, you did a awesome job. To the people that have opinions of what he should have done, it isn't your car and he supplied pictures to give you ideas for your own vehicle. This from is guilty of to many people busting ***** (all the time).

^ ehh i like getting everyone opinions to see what I can improve or take away. And I agree with whoever said I should have left the Nissan letters black. I got a little carried away when painting the cover and while waiting for the base to flash, i taped off and started to paint the emblem, when I got done with it I kinda regretted doing it.
