I may be wrong, but I remember reading in another thread the OP said he was going to return the HFC to Stillen because he was going to order something else. If I recall, he said something about not taking the chance to have them crack..

I've taken the car to a mechanic to have them installed for $60, he was unable to break the stock cat bolts loose. AH was right about removing stock cats from the HR's, the stock bolts are so tight they'll break unless you know the secret to remove them.

I don't want to pay $558 + $165/723 labor for 6whp. I've decided to go with an Injen CAI and Technosquare Reflash. I'll install my own intake, it's not difficult.

I replaced the cats on my HR in my garage, and both bolts (one per header, on top, and a royal pain to get to) did break, and I was thankful when they did. It also took a 4 foot piece of pipe over my breaker bar (and a swivel and about 2' of extensions) to break the driver side loose. I also broke one socket in the first attempt. All the nuts (2 each side on the header, and 2 nuts with bolts on the y pipe) came off relatively easy. Putting it back together was a snap. I like it now that it's done.

I wish I could do that. I would just hate to have the bolts break on me and get stuck having to drill them out

When they broke, they broke in the old cats, so it didn't matter. So when they broke, it saved me a bunch of time and effort. That's why I was glad they broke. Now if I wanted to reuse the old cats, I would have a problem, and the broken studs would have to be removed somehow.

hmm... I may just have to look into taking my chances breaking the bolts, I do want to reuse my stock cat in a few years for state smog checks, but I could opt to buy a stock cat off of a fellow member or find a way to remove the broken bolts.

one idea would be to do it when the cats are hot. the metals expand at different rates and may give you a better chance.

I'm pretty sure 98% of test pipe/high flow cat installs.....turn out to be a pain.....Robs mechanic at Z Car Garage had a shti load of trouble with just that one bolt....just gotta keep going at it i guess trying different angles different ways....all in all it is worth it...i gained 7 whp and 7trq with bassani true dual and another 7whp and 7trq with just test pipes....if you are going to reflash might as well save your money and get as many bolt ons as you can so you dont have to flash everytime.....its your baby dont half *** it and only get whats best

I just need to know if there's any risk of the bolt getting stuck inside the headers

I guess I'll have to spend $175 plus for installation, HFC's are expensive! it just better be worth it.

hfc are a good bang for the buck mod a buddy of mine had crawford hfc on his rev up but he was trying to get every little hp he can get out of his motor so he switched to test pipes....also he has a fujitsubo catback...and now is switching to a more free flowing true dual....but thats another story for another time

Yeah, they were better than I thought... and about people saying they get hotter than the stock intake, that's not the case at all, in fact I think they stay cooler due to the extra space around the intake itself. That extra space allows air to travel better through the engine bay, keeping things slightly cooler. I touched the intake itself after a drive on the freeway... it's about the same as stock or cooler.
