Yes its normal if you have low miles or if you don't redline it much. I want to bet its either your clutch from you ripping through the gears or your exhaust got nice and hot. Did it smell kinda like burnt metal?

I just wanna add that this smell does not clear up after breaking in. I got almost 9k mi on mine, still smells like that, and all I do is go past 4-5k.

Yes, it is completely normal to have a smell after redlining. The mileage doesn't matter. There is a lot of heat being generated and a lot of fuel being burned. It's not going to smell like roses.

I love the smell, makes me know shes hard at work.. but then i feel bad. And i know its both clutch and engine.. Clutch from beating it through gears and the high reving and redlines through a couple gears. 8k miles so far. Still new.

Mine does the same. I only have 9k. My situation is wierd. Today i Just punched it and i didnt even redline it or changed any gears. just punched it in first and it smelled funky. Its been doing that lately. Smells like the clutch but should it smell even if i dont change gears?

when you reline or drive HARD for a while the exhaust create heat and it curing the "extra coating" of the under lining or ur car. Its normal, if you want it to go away in about a week just drive for a while so the curing process would happen faster.

Noticed this last night, my roommate who works at a Toyota/Scion dealership couldn't understand what it was. I did a redline in first and second from a stop in my HR, once I let off the burnt metal smell came in. My '07's got 2600 miles on it, so I have probably only redlined it a handful of times. Good to know it's normal, I LOVE this car
