Default V Powa! vs XYZ Petroleum?

Anyone notice a recognizable difference between Shell V power compared to any regular gas station. Using 93 Octane.

Fifth gear did a test in the UK and found that V Power diesel was more powerful than the rest on a Dyno. Giving a 6 hp gain over the regular fuel.

Anyone know the difference with petroleum with Shell over Regular gas.

Anyone swear by Shell over the rest?

I don't swear by it but I use it when traveling. Locally I use Sunoco 93, or sometimes 94 although I can't tell a damn bit of difference between the two octane levels. Never proven either way on the dyno - that would be tough to do since dyno readings can change from day to day due to atmospheric conditions and it woul dbe pretty hard to run back to back with different fuels. Personally I'm not buying 6 HP gain though, although I know nothing about diesels to begin with.

^Lol I was going to make that the 3rd poll option but I couldn't go back and re edit it

The 6hp gain came from usuing diesel. I know next to nothing about it, but my guess might be, the gas cleaned some grime off the internals since it was a used car they tested it on.

Who knows

This is a little off topic, but of course you couldn't tell any difference between 93 and 94 octane. Octane is just a measure of how much you can compress the fuel before it spontaneously ignites (knock). In a really basic nutshell, when you increase the compression ratio of an engine or add forced induction, that is when you need to worry about increasing the octane level (ok, I know, that if you want to start really playing with timing etc you would want to increase octane too, but this is basic). Increasing the level of octane increases the safety margin before detonation. /random factoid.

Anyways, from what I understand, even Shell admits that the only "advantage" to V Power is it has additional cleaners in it that helped reduced carbon deposits on engine internals, specifically the intake valves and fuel injectors. I think they may claim that it helps reduce friction, but...

As far as diesel goes, that is a different beast all together. Shell does claim that it's V Power diesel is specially formulated to increase performance and be used by modern diesel engines. Maybe they use a different refining process or something... Having driven a fairly well modified diesel truck quite a bit, there is a noticeable difference in performance depending on the quality of the diesel you get. Diesel engine technology has come a long way so there may be some truth to this. Just my two sense.

I'm going to be honest here, ever since I have owned my '02 Sequoia i have been using 93 gas from a local RaceWay gas station. It's basically a big no-name gas station about 1 mile down from my house. The sequoia is at 98,000 miles now and runs like a champ..

For my Z though I use 93 Shell V-power. I don't know why i use it though.. i just do..
