Crank pulley absorbs vibrations through the crankshaft (harmonics), thats why it is a two piece item with rubber or fluid or something to act as a shock absorber. Replacing it with a soild metal pulley can acutally cost power in some applications due to increased internal resistance. Weight actually has very little to do with it as far as reliabilty or power output is concerned.

A good fluidampr pulley is usually heavier than a stock crank pulley, yet it can gain power due to doing a better job than the factory piece.

Most likely I will need to take it to another shop to have an accurate Dyno. Not happy with the results I was told today over the phone without the pulley installed. There has to be an issue with thier Dyno.

guaranteed you're still going to be unhappy with the numbers even after the pulley is installed.

What do you need to lock the flywheel? Couldn't you put the car in gear and hold the brakes?

Its tighter then you think. Old school methods don't work. Putting it in gear with E-brake on is no help. Bumping the starter with a breaker bar locked is no good.

You need to remove the starter and lock the flywheel to remove the pulley. Or damage could be done. Best to do it the right way.

I wouldn't count on the e-brake, but if you can move the car with the service brakes applied by trying to loosen the crank pulley, then thats a bad mother****er.

I've heard of underdrive pulleys doing damage to the motor by not properly turning the waterpump at the proper speed.
