Default bad hesitation after downshift

anybody had similar problems?

scenario: in 6th gear about 65mph, pushed the clutch in, bought the RPMs up to downshift in 3rd for a hard pass and my car hesitated and stumbled violently.

well is it a auto or standard?? from what you said i would think it standard. it shouldnt really have that pause if it standard and if it auto then it kinda alright. Either way like the guy said it could your fuel pump could be going out or something good thing you got warrenty and should take it to the dealer or tell the dealer to note it in your record.

I've caught my car doing that about twice.. But I've always thought that it was driver error because I am not used to this N/A motor.. I've owned turbo cars my whole life.

I say go out and try it again.. and again and see if it does it EVERYTIME... or just see if your doing something wrong...

BTW... Do you have any mods? and if so... What are they?

If it does it EVERYTIME or even 4 out of 6 times I say bring it to the Dealership, but that's always my last resort.. Hope everything works out

it could be your tcs kicking in. in cooler weather the z has enough power to spin the tires a little when going to 3rd at 65, try it with tcs off (carefull not to spin out) see if it still happens

what would you do different on a turbo car that would cause hesitation on an na car?

i drive both (my sister has an sti), the only thing that causes hesitation for me is if i left tcs on...

Downshifting on a turbo usually puts you right into boost... On an N/A they each have there "Powerbands" and its usually at a HIGHER rpm then a turbo.

And warmmilk... Its HIS issue your Z may not have this issue.

I thought It was me at first, but this has happened 3 times in all now. Ive tried multiple times and the problem is intermittent. I have some mods but the only "performance" and I really would'nt even call it a performace mod is K&N drop-ins and an EVO2 exhaust.
I am keeping a watch on it, I really dont want to have to go to the dealer.

base model, no TCS

Thanks for the replies everyone, like I said the problem has been intermittent and I just wanted to see if anybody else was having this issue.
It has not acted up since, and I still have not decided if I should take it to the dealer (keep in mind my warranty is up) or just wait until the problem gets worse.

sorry for the way late response, but it could be the k&n drop ins. if the oil off the filter got onto the maf's, it could be that its messing up the reading. i friend of mine had the same issue on his supra...

try getting some maf cleaner, clean your maf's, and replace the k&n's with some oem filters and see if you still have the problem

i have a cat back exhaust (motordyne y pipe and fujitsubo exhaust) and i've never had this issue. i doubt its cause of lack of tune...

are you rev matching when downshifting or just killing your trans and slaming it into the lower gear I've seen this done 1 too many times and sooner or later something will give ... this could be causing the hesitation

I have experienced the same intermitent hesitation issue... Only happened about 3 or 4 times under heavy acceleration in second or third gear. Car was driving temperature, and did not follow a downshift (in my example). I did notice the SLIP light on my dash flashing in tune with the hesitation. Typically turning off the TCS stops the hesitation. Not sure if they are related, it just seems to solve it in my case.

I'd go to the dealer, but causing the hesitation to occur on command is next to impossible, so I'm hoping for a TSB at some point if enough people complain about it.
