Test Pipes / HFCs Issues & Problems
I'm interested in purchasing a set of test-pipes/hfc's to make my car louder.
After some extensive research I have concluded that test pipes/hfc's bring a lot of unwanted attention to these cars.
Problems include:
1. CEL Light
2. Hesitation/Bog (Mostly around 3k RPM)
3. Tuning Issues (Running Rich/Lean)
* - Worst problem is that no one has a 100% fix. (Non-Foulers, Steel Wool, & Brilo)
I would like to know if anyone has a solid solution to these problems. It would also be nice to see how many people are actually having issues with their set-ups.

well first of all yes you are pretty much going to be running straight pipes with test pipes so it is going to be louder. with stock exhaust its not really to noticable. how the fix with brillo is just fine. idk why it would matter as long as it works. now running rich usually always happens with test pipes that is why the make a thing called a tune. for the extra added hp and just to put a little brillo in the hole more than makes up for it.
1. a CEL light is dependant on the construction of the pipes, and the year of your car
2. any change to the exhaust should be accompanied by a tune. Is it 100% mandatory? No, the car will still run without an optimized tune, but to make the most of the mods, a retune is highly suggested

I believe the hesitation issues are caused by damaged O2 sensors. The O2 sensors on the exhaust manifolds are sensitive and can get easily damaged by the use of an impact wrench or hammer.
You don't really need a tune if you only have HFC's.
I'm running Invidia HFC's with no antifouler installed and no CEL either.

I also have the ART pipes and am having that same issue. I reset my ecu but am still having the same problem, but no CEL. I guess I just gotta get a tune. Was gonna wait til the spring but I may use some x-mas money for a New Years tune.
No, no I mean when I was in the low-rpm range, held it there for a few seconds, then mashed the throttle, the car would hesitate for a split second before accelerating. This was after and hours worth of tuning. After installing hi-flow cats, the low-rpm hesitation went away. This is discussed more here (page 2):

I have HKS True Dual with Berk Test Pipes. I didn't get the CEL for 2000 miles but then I got one. I had it cleared with a code reader and didnt get one for a while. I got another one recently but it went away on its own. These are the only problems I have.
