Never understood why people on here seem to think cams give only a few hp.
Cams arent made to just work by themselves with stock intakes and exhaust.
Pair them with springs and retainers a well made intake and a serious exhaust set up with a good tune and they will really begin to shine plus you can rev to the moon lol
The VQ engines are nowhere near maxed out with just a few bolt ons.

cptwiggles youre on the right course with a few of your mods you have listed like the Quaife diff HD slave and Master cyl I have all of those and love them.
As for shorty headers and HFC I would skip that all together and just get long tube headers. If sound becomes and issue or you still want some sort of catalytic converter for emissions purposes then add the Motordyne XYZ Y-pipe to them with choice of straight pipe, resonator or cat attachment which you can change out any time.

So my opinion on your mod list would be, (key words MY OPINION)

INTAKE- Im still not really sold on the long tube cold air intakes but hopefully someone can show solid proof of gains, I personally run stock air boxes with K&N drop ins. One thing to change for better could be to replace the rubber tube from the box to the Throttle body with a smooth flowing one. Im sure there are better flowing intakes to be had, no way the stock ones are as good as it gets, ever see the tiny 2 inch diameter hole behind the filter?

EXHAUST- Long Tube Headers + XYZ pipe W/ and whatever exhaust you choose after that is up to your sound preference.

FUEL- I think higher flowing Injectors should be enough on the fuel delivery
like King mentioned in an earlier post

HEAD WORK- Cams, springs and retainers to allow for higher revving while still getting power up there.

REAR END- In conjunction with your Quaife diff I would go with the 4.08 gear.
(combo im running and absolutely loving it esp with a raised redline to make up for the MPH per gear loss)

TUNING- Uprev lol as simple as that
The more I talk to people the more it seems likely that I will be going with this type of upgrade path, and probably leave gears for last if I really feel like doing it.

And Seymore all of these mods will likely be taking place within a year or so, so when the time comes I may give you a shout if you're still available.

Some posts are certainly more useful than others but it's typically pretty easy to weed out the bs. I've had a few very useful pms as well as some good info in these posts, but the majority of this post is to really just gather information and various points of views and come to my own conclusion. Quite a bit of bias and misinformation on most forums which is why I try to stay away.

because no one revs the engine to what it needs for cams, 272's and revvin to 7500 is the wrong answer but people worry about the oil pump. on top of that a bigger cam is always going to make a car "feel" slower because it drops the low and mid range power which is bad for 90% of drivers. not many people put the car in the rev range it needs for the cams to work on a regular basis plus the drop in lower rev range torque makes people feel disappointed since they dont feel the power from cams.

for instance i make 600 ft lbs of torque at ~4800(or did before the 66 exhuast wheel and new intake), cams would move that up significantly lessing the power "hit" and making the car feel slower even if it is faster.

not to mention 2500-3000 depending on cams and shop for 15-25 rwhp is very hard to swallow for most people

Very true I see your point, those 90% of people shouldnt be getting cams lol. To me if I were to be going through the hassle of getting cams it would be with racing in mind. The gains are high RPMs which is where your engine is while youre slamming gears down the drag strip. Nobody cares about low and mid power when racing, I dont at least lol.
Speaking of those 90% I often see people mod their cars almost just to be able to brag about it or something, hear it at car events/meets all the time "hey I have (huge part list) and make (cool number) to the wheels". Yet never see a track to see where all the time, money and effort went , shift gears like grandma and get surprised when they get walked by some kid in a K swapped civic.
Lol okay I think i went too far, just ranting ,dont mind me I get irritated at the car scene these days esp the dyno sheet racers and the fender fu(ker fad. :P carry on fellas

Those little fu(kers can be fast lol 250whp in a little EG hatch and its a monster. Yeah lately i swear I cant stand going to a car meet and having some kid in a 350 talking about his mod plans. Granted i was 18 when i got my first new Z which stayed stock but some of these new owners are on a whole new level of stupid

I seem to recall being corrected for my terminology due to possibly offending those involved with the "scene," which is yet another thing I stay far far away from due to the aforementioned reason and more.

What do you mean by 2 inch hole behind the filter? i noticed in our HR Air Boxes there is a hole behind the filter faced down, closed with some bracket. in the G35 Sedan HR there is the same hole but open with a small plastic pipe attached to it! but i dont know this pipe attached to what. coz i was comparing 350z HR Box with G35 Sedan HR box and they were out the cars.

i thought of something!! maybe we can open this small bracket and put a rubber pipe for example to make it take fresh air from the bumper grille. since this hole is after the filter there is no harm!

anybody saw this hole? i think its opened in the G35 Sedan to be connected to a resonator !
