On that line of thought. I rented an 09 Maxima. First of all, WOW!!!! That car is HAWT!! My three year old daughter said we had to get one, and in three years, I will. Nissan touts it as being a 4DSC (4 Door Sports Car). And, it is; handling and acceleration are OUTSTANDING!! Loved it.

That said, the Maxima weighs about 3540 and 'only' has 290 HP. The 370Z will weigh at least 300 pounds less than that, have at least 330 HP, handle and brake much better also. I turned the Maxima back in to the rental company only salivating on how much of a beast the Z would be. Baby GT-R, Baby Godzilla.... Ummm Yeah... Game on world.

Great discussion, tre bien, indeed

Keep that in mind about the G37 Sedan, but it's interesting MT had the 7sp and got some good times. C&D had the 6MT, and they claimed it wasn't any faster than the old one. Of course, we must bear in mind the 3700 lb. weight.

i think itll all be about weight also, i was able to pull on a g37 a few nights ago. We are both stock and i pulled at least 3 cars from 60-120 (doubleing speed) So even a z at current weight with jus tthe additional HP would be really nice, then take 300lbs off and you have a whole new car. Not to mention a shorter platform MAY yeild less hp loss due to a shorter driveshaft.

Those are only 2 data points, and I know we don't have much to go on, but I think the 6MT will show to be faster over time, with more reviews. The C&D car was "green"... fresh from the factory. Nissan builds a tight engine... so I'm pretty certain we will see faster times in the future.

I honestly wonder how much was done by Nissan on purpose.

Give a brand new 6MT car to test, so the acceleration is a little slow... and it doesn't seem much faster than the G35.

But, why would Nissan want to do that?

Well, if you've still got tons of G35's on the lots to sell, do you want the G37 to seem that much better? And you know you can have more tests down the road to show faster results...

Hmm... Who knows. We'll see.

But either way, take those acceleration times for the new G37 sedans, and then take into consideration a ~400 pound (over 10%) lighter car...

It's looking good... quarter mile should be at least 13 flat, and in a nice, light, great handling chassis. This is the new performance bargain... literally, a Cayman S at half the price.

Gawd, I hope they keep it light... this really is the key.

The other nice thing is that with simple bolt-ons and tunes, it looks like peeps are getting good numbers from the VQ37 engines in the G37.

If the 370Z is as responsive to mods, we're looking at ~360HP cars without much problem.

It would take a lot more than 350 hp to compete with a vette.
A stock 08 C6 vette will run low 12's @ 115-116 mph.

The 370Z would need upward of 400 hp to do that.

I think with what will probably be right around 340 hp and if it drops 125 lbs off the current 350Z weight you'll see
12.9-13.0's @ 108-109 mph from them.
If they do in fact come with the GT-R's twin clutch auto/manual it might do 12.8's @ 110 mph.

well how much does the c6 weigh? I was thinking it was around 3700 but that may be the z06. Could be wrong all together, i dont care for the vette...

And i know im getting picky, but along with the other "wishes" id def like to see LSD standard and a good bit wider tire on the butt end, considering more hp and less weight.

The weights on the Vette fluctuate depending on what site you look at almost as bad as the 350z....In general the 06 Z06 were around 31xx while the 07-> are around 32xx. Im going off of memory from the MT and C&D articles Ive read..The regular C6 coupe is just a tad bit heavier. With 436hp on tap for the C6 there will be no 350hp 370z's beating one anytime soon.

how people come up with that thought, unless someone's been doing some ricer math Put an equal amount of basic N/A breathing mods and the V8 still hauls over the Z.

I can get a "fast" car if I want to, but I like the Z's driving personality. The 370Z's modernized retro cues is what I really like. Plus, it is sized just right for my 5'7" Asian body frame.

The C6 vette weighs around 3250 pounds.
The ZO6 is under 3200 lbs.
The ZR1 is just over 3300 lbs.

They are quite fast stock and are cheap to mod and make an additional 100 hp on.

The 370Z would need to have a small V8 or TT 6 to even compare in the power to weight arena.

Default Why...

not just make it 370hp? I mean, it would certainly make things easier when people ask me why the hp is written on the back of my car. Umm...yeah.

Default I figured it out!

Okay I'm willing to bet 5 bucks on the following assessment:

If we measure the power to weight ratio decrease & weight increase between the original G35 sport coupe and the G37 sport coupe as a percentage then we can calculate the power to weight ratio decrease between the 03 base model Z and the 370Z thus giving a resulting HP number. So....

2003 G35 Sport Coupe
Weight = 3416 lbs
HP = 280 hp
P/W Ratio = 12.2

2008 G37 Sport Coupe
Weight = 3668 (increased 7.3%)
HP = 330 (increased 17.8%)
P/W Ratio = 11.11

P/W RATIO CHANGE AS A % = 9.8%

2003 Base Model 350Z
Weight = 3188 lbs
HP = 287 hp
P/W Ratio = 11.1

2009 Base Model 370Z (Calculated from P/W Ratio)
Weight = 3420 lbs (increase of 7.3%)
P/W Ratio [11.1 * (100%-9.8%)] = 10
HP = 3420/10 = 342 hp

What kind of fuzzy math bs was that? You should be a politician... or better yet, Chairman of the Federal Reserve.

I thought this was a debate? I am keeping the weight increase % linear with the G's increase so that the folks that can't keep up won't discard it and start calling it "fuzzy math bs". I haven't seen an official weight spec from Nissan, have you?

You're looking at a 3700 lb car with 328 HP that offers brisk acceleration. How much HP the 370Z will get doesn't matter because it will out accelerate the G37 Sedan and Coupe even if it has the same amount of power. There has to be 500 lbs weight difference.
I comprehended it, but you need to take into account the gearing ratios that each car has. I'm too lazy to look it up, but it's something to consider.
