FI??? for what??? you got almost 320 at the wheels on the HR engine... I don't know if with the same bolt ons you'll get around 335 at the wheel for the 370z... but that is just short of something of 400 at the flywheel... on a 3000 lbs car with the right suspension, angles, differential you can go as fast as a GT3 on the paper... the biggest issue in these figures is the driver... it's going to be plenty of power to let the driver show his skills.
(on a road course or autoX).
those numbers you'll be on par with car like the E92 M3, new direct injection 997s, audi R8.... to me is PLENTY of power for a mid 40K (modified) car.

No don't get me love I love NA power and teh 370z shoudl be a beast as well with bolt ons but for my next car i want a weekend monster. I built my Z right now as a daily driver with a 5AT but with great all around performance(speed and handling). The next car I was going to purchase was goign to be a 6mt weekend car and I was looking at teh m3/GTR. But if I can buiild up a 370z with more power than both at 3000 pounds then thats a beast. It woudl perfect with bolt on's and suspension/ braking mods but I want to go all out on my next car. Thats just my preference for my next car and since I love my Z so much right now with the feel it gives back to the driver I was thinking that maybe I should save some money since I will be unblieveably happy. Only thign I'm scraed of is that the looks of the car will dissappoint....

grab a viper ACR... or a Z06... or a turbo porsche (used)...
that stuff is in the "monster" area.

With the bigger engine and improved interior materials, I doubt the 370z will lose a lot of weight, even though they are shortening it. Remember, it's still going to be a shortened FM platform, which is not as efficient at dumping weight as building a smaller purpose-built platform from scratch. But much cheaper.

Anyway, I know there are rumors of it losing 200 pounds, but as much as I'd like to see it, that would be difficult, even with the new aluminum doors and hatch.

But still, the 370z could hover around 3200 pounds with 330 HP... and a better than 10:1 pounds per HP ratio.

As for modifying, remember that turbo kits add weight with pipes, wastegates, 2 turbos and 2 intercoolers, etc. Well over 100 pounds. Plus throw off weight balance, by putting it all up front.

As someone hinted, if you wanted a true track monster, weight might be more important than utmost power at this point, if you are already pushing a decent 9:1 weight to power ratio... especially on many of the curvier tracks.

The Porsche GT3 is a monster around a track, and not a turbo...

I've spent a lot of time on a track, and easy-to-modulate power and light weight with a good suspension can do wonders... street/drag racing is a different story, and a turbo rocks.

The old car with ~300 hp and 3300+ pounds to drag around was a different story, 11:1 ratio. A bolt-on modified 370Z pushing 355 HP with 3200 pounds would be a 9:1 ratio, which is a world of difference (20%) and quite attainable.

But whatever... we'll see.

While the ACR is certainly a streetcar it would be overkill based on the cars AH mentioned.. If he is looking at an M3/GTR he isnt looking for a hardcore stone cold killer like the ACR. The M3 isnt in the same league with the GTR and you seen what the ACR did to the GTR at VIR.

Id probably get a used 350Z for cheap and make that my track star for pennys compared to the others mentioned.

This is offtopic, but in regards to the VQ37VHR and 7sp auto transmission. Did you guys read Motortrend's preview of the G37s Sedan? Although bench racing isn't ideal, but at least we can compare other numbers to get an idea about what's in store for the 370Z.

If this 3700 pound car with 7-speed auto can achieve close to 5s 0-60 and mid 13s 1/4mi, I wonder what it would be like to shave a few hundred pounds off. It appears the 7sp auto may be technically superior to the 6MT as well.

While the domestics are injecting more liters in their engines, Nissan is putting the Z on a much-needed diet. I am glad Nissan sticks to the V6 rather than utilize gas guzzling V8 engines. Less weight and a more potent V6 is a great combination.

Domestics can focus on quarter mile times. Nissan will take a step back and look at the big picture.

Damned American manufacturers....just can't see the "big picture." Well, here's a $23K V6 American car that doesn't sound so ill-conceived.....they even compared it to a G37:

Not knocking the 6MT at all, but..... Game On.

ZZ, I think what they may be trying to say is that it has taken a while for American manufactors to take action and actually put out cars that do take into account the big picture. The vision may have been there, but we are finally starting to see it become a reality.

Am I making sense???? If not, sorry, JUST had my coffee....

I really don't know how much weight they will save but lots of magazines have been saying 150-200 lbs in the last few months. The Maxima lost only 35 lbs from 2008 to 2009 model. I don't know, maybe they will save some serious weight because this is a sports car. As for HP, I won't get my hopes up for 340 or 350 but more would be nice. I think 330 is nice though.

Just hoping for under 5.0s.

well i dont think nissan ever pointed out that the maxima was going to lose alot of weight and it still lost 35 lbs

with the new Z, everybody is saying that losing weight is one of the priorities

i agree.. take for example the G35 having 280hp at first and then bumped into where the 350Z was at 287.. now that the new G37 has 330hp, i'm guessing it will be a bump of 10+ giving it to about 340.. 350hp would be nice though

Based on the numbers from 3.5L engine and 306hp it outputs, for 3.7 liter engine with dual intakes (HR) the numbers are looking at roughly323.5hp. But seeing is how they squeezed 330hp from the 3.7L g37 engine, i predict the numbers are going to be very close, within 5~hp difference at most..
