Default New key--US car now in Canada

Hey,

I recently purchased a spare key from ebay for my 350 that I purchased in the US. I brought my key, car, and vin # into my local Nissan dealership and they tell me they can cut the key but can not program it with the car because its a US car and they use different "programing".

Has anyone imported a 350 into Canada from the US and tried to get a spare key cut/programmed?

Thanks

not too sure about the key. but when I bought my car from the US, it didn't come with the Key FOB. I had to purchase one here and get the dealer to program it for me. I called a local dealer and was advised to leave the car there for the whole day because the have to contact people in the US and program the car.

I met a guy that worked at nissan and told him the story about my key. He asked me to show the key fob, went inside the car and voila, he programmed it in less than a minute. He said dealers are BS. Call another dealership and get somebody to do it for you.

Thanks for the reply.

I would just go to another dealership but there is only one in my province.

I assumed he used some sort of device when programing the new key?

not that I know of. We were at a timmies parking lot. And it is the remote by the way, not the key.

I searched and I did not come across the way to do it on my own. Everyone says dealer only. Can you forward me the post where it states how to do it on my own?
