I've been looking for wheels since I bought my Z a few months ago and I can't make up my damn mind. On all my past cars i've had Axis/Enkei/Konig wheels that are all about similar in quality with Enkei being on the top end. These wheels where great for my Maxima and Prelude but I feel that the Z needs a bit more. The thing I notice the most about high end wheels is the lip is much more polished looking...almost chrome? Those with Volk, HRE, Iforged, Work and so on what type of lip do you have? Meaning is it clear coated? Or raw metal? How do you clean it? With my Axis wheels they had a sweet 3.5 inch lip...it was clear coated and very easy to keep clean and free of chips. I know the extra shine of these high end wheels comes with a price...but will it also be harder to keep clean and looking nice? Thanks guys.
All those wheels 3 piece come with polished lips...problem is that they dull over time...I mean they will look like crap and there is nothing that will make them look like new...recommend that you make sure that the 3 piece wheel you buy has a chrome lip so that doesnt happen (ex: gfg wheels / symbolic wheels)
HRE will add clear coat for additional $40 for the face, and $30 for the lip.
I sold a lot of HRE and yes, it will dull over time, but if you wash your wheels regularly, polishing compound will take all the scratches out easily.
One advantage for not having a clear coat is that if you curb your rims, you can polish it out yourself. Some Japanese wheels have certain kind of clear coat that the wheel repair shop won't be able to match.
