Default 275/40rw 17?

Will a set of 275/40RW 17 tires fit on the original 17" rims without any problems with driveability? I was thinking of using these on all four wheels.

nope... those wheels are nowhere near wide enough for tires that wide... you need at least 9" wide wheels for a 275

I have 275s on the stock 17" wheels. Go to the Racing forum, several people in there are running 275s on stock wheels. It's not the ideal width wheel for a 275, but it fits.

Although you can make a 275 tire fit on the stock 17" rim, you are really not doing yourself any good by doing so. There will be far too much inward bowing of the sidewall leading to less than ideal handling charcteristics. Also, due to the inward bowing of the sidewall, the tire tread will be pulled up at the sides creating a rounded contact patch which is probably no larger than the stock 235 tire properly mounted on the correct size wheel.

So while it may sound appealing to think than you *can* fit that kind of rubber on the stock wheel, doesn't mean you should.

I suppose it depends what you're using it for too. For R compound tires the longevity is much higher running a 275 vs. a 245, and the difference in grip isn't huge, but noticeable.
