dont buy KYOKUGEN lug nuts!
hi all, just wanted to give out some friendly advice so no one runs into the same problem.
this was my first time trying open-ended lugs on the street, bad idea. the excess rain this season, rusted and oxidized in the openings near the wheel studs, making the lugs extremely hard to get off.
on top of that, the Kyokugen lug nuts are a 7-sided design, so they only work with their key, which they do not sell seperately. the inside of the key STRIPS off only after a few uses. the end result is lots of stripped, unusable lug nuts, an unusable key (which now i need a new one), and also lots of unsightly scratches on my volks... oh well, life goes on.

All metal non coated lug nuts will eventually rust. I have seen people use Kyokugen lug nuts for years with no problems. Normally stripping the key only occurs when not making sure it is seated properly or using air tools with the key. There are better lug nuts than Kyokugen, but they are useable.
A co--worker of mine used them on his car for a few months in Florida and his rusted on so tight he snapped 4 lug keys and you cannot buy the key seperately so you must purchase a full set of new lug nuts. After snapping the 4th (borrowed from a friend), he had it welded up and finally had access to an impact gun and was able to get them off. He only TQ'd them to 70 lb/ft to prevent something like this.

The kyokugen lugs are fairly good lugs as long as you take gentle care of them. They must be torqued to spec and nothing more and definitely you do not want to use air tools to remove them. If anyone here needs just the key, I have a few of them here.
