Default How long did you're OEM tires lasted ?

I just swapped my brakes in preparation for this weekend's lapping.

My rear tires are now 1mm away from the warning markers. I'm surprised since I don't have 7000 miles yet on the car !

I guess driving with VDC OFF didn't help them, as did one day of lapping at MidOhio. But 7000 miles ???

How long did your's last ?

I say it. How many times did you rotate and balance the tires or get an alignment? Not being able to perform a true cross rotation easily is the number one reason why your "sports car" is not getting the same tire life that your Cavalier is getting.

Mine are worn pretty evenly.

A bit more in the middle section, possibly over inflated (or too much wheel spin…)

I’ll be mounting a set of Falken Azenis RT-615 Monday and budget for a 2 to 1 ratio of tire wear.

My Z has 13k miles on it. I never rotated the tires once, nor was I told to by Nissan or the dealership. I have no such inner wear. So how can you blame someone for this feathering? Clearly its not as intended. You should not have to rotate a tire every 2000 miles. Especially when it costs 50 bucks. Thats just absurd.

My old Tacoma, I got 50,000 miles out of those tires (MUD tires even) and rotated them maybe once.

Its so obvious a defect (though not on every Z), its not even funny. Just like the grinding transmission I had replaced.

Did you even read the thread? Why did you bring the "feathering" card into this? This thread has nothing to do with "feathering". The guy simply wanted to know how long most peoples tires last.

I drove on the re040's way longer than I should have--20,000 miles with about 1/2" of tread completely gone all the way around-flew off when doing donuts, and tread belts showing everywhere. Im now at 48,000 miles, and I am on my 5th set of rear tires. My set after the re040's were F1 gs-d3's and they only lasted me 5000 miles cuz I slammed my car at that time and had negative 4.2 degrees camber, lol.

I had my fronts replaced under warranty at 20k for feathering and had the alignment done by Nissan, feathering probably started at around 12k but Nissan would just give me excuses and not replace them until the TSB was released.

I recently dumped the sh!tty Potenzas for Avon Techs.

At that point I had put on another 16k on the replacement Potenzas this time around they showed no feathering, so whatever Nissan did fixed my problem (hopefully)

The rear potenzas had about 36K on them, no feathering, they were at the tread replacement indicator

I have a 2003 Touring, been driving it since Nov 2002.

Mine were at 19k when I finally got them changed, but they had been making too much noise for well over 10k. It just got totally ridiculous at 16-17k. I replaced them mainly because I thought it was too dangerous with all the wear. Or maybe not, but why risk it?

not long enough! at 13k miles they were absolutely bald. though i did drive from 10k miles with no alignment after installing my springs. but it wasn't just the inside of the tires that were bald, it was pretty much the whole tire except the outsides. hopefully the s03's will last a bit longer.

my first set lasted about 20k. switched out my second at 35.9k for larger wheels. i don't "race", but i drive as fast as i can, whenever i can. now, if you're always practising your launches like die die, for instance, 7k is about average.

the oem RE040 have 140 treadwear rating, 17000 miles is an actually good/average milleage for such a low treadwear tire.

get some 400 treadwear tires, like Pzero Nero for example and they will last 30K-40K miles.

Not al tires wear at the same speed unfortunately. UTQG ratings are there for a reason. Now why Nissan chose to put these tires on the Z is open to debate, but they aren't that bad a sport street tire.

You just compared the tread ratings of a Bridgestone and a Pirelli tire. You might want to read up on the UTQC ratings as far as treadwear. The numbers are NOT comparable between tire manufacturers and that is a common misconception. Quote from www.tirerack.com :

Treadwear Grades

UTQG Treadwear Grades are based on actual road use in which the test tire is run in a vehicle convoy along with standardized Course Monitoring Tires. The vehicle repeatedly runs a prescribed 400-mile test loop in West Texas for a total of 7,200 miles. The vehicle can have its alignment set, air pressure checked and tires rotated every 800 miles. The test tire's and the Monitoring Tire's wear are measured during and at the conclusion of the test. The tire manufacturers then assign a Treadwear Grade based on the observed wear rates. The Course Monitoring Tire is assigned a grade and the test tire receives a grade indicating its relative treadwear. A grade of 100 would indicate that the tire tread would last as long as the test tire, 200 would indicate the tread would last twice as long, 300 would indicate three times as long, etc.

The problem with UTQG Treadwear Grades is that they are open to some interpretation on the part of the tire manufacturer because they are assigned after the tire has only experienced a little treadwear as it runs the 7,200 miles. This means that the tire manufacturers need to extrapolate their raw wear data when they are assigning Treadwear Grades, and that their grades can to some extent reflect how conservative or optimistic their marketing department is. Typically, comparing the Treadwear Grades of tire lines within a single brand is somewhat helpful, while attempting to compare the grades between different brands is not as helpful.

uh?

"Typically, comparing the Treadwear Grades of tire lines within a single brand is somewhat helpful, while attempting to compare the grades between different brands is not as helpful."

the fact that there is some error margin when compairing different brands does not mean it's irrelevant. 140 bridgestone compared to 140 pirelli even with a 10% wear difference would only be 1-2K miles difference overall. You can say whatever you want, 140 treadwear RE040 will never last anywhere close to 400 treadwear tires, whatever the brand! Might not be accurate, but it's a BIG hint.

Anyway, that wasn't the point. if you don't want 400 pirelli, get some 400 bridgestones... or whatever gets you through the day. If you plan on getting 30K miles out of 140 treadwear tires(RE040, or whatever the brand) you are being delusional.

hmm... not to contradict but I have 28500 on my rear tires... they are pretty close to being replaced though... i just check the pressure and also 98% of my driving is on the highway. The fronts however, at 22000 started to feather, so they were replaced by the dealer.
