Sigh, well I'm sooo close to ordering 19" GT-Cs, but I'm having last minute size concerns =\

Combos I'm considering:

19x8.5 +27
19x9.5 +24

19x9.5 +21
19x10.5 +24

I was going to do 9.5/10.5 at first but it seems like there might be tire concerns. Volk specs 275 tires for a 9.5 wide. Tires over 275 go up in price... a lot. I prefer tires to look beefy on the wheel over too thin.

I also haven't seen any good side-by-side comparisons of 9.5 vs 10.5 wheels. As it stands, I'm starting to lean towards 8.5 and 9.5s.

I guess I'm wondering if anyone has any advice or experience comparing the two.

I say go for the deep lip in the rear...10.5 !!! You won't regret it and you'll receive mad compliments.

Here is my take....If you plan on lowering or are lowered 1" or more, if you get 10.5" rears, PLEASE dont do the crap that everybody seems to be doing with their 10.5" rears-which is put a stretched out 275 on the back so they dont have to roll the fenders. If you feel like possibly having to roll your fenders and dont mind spending a little more on tires def do the 10.5" rear, I have it, I rolled the fenders its a great cobo, its absolutely intimidating coming up on me from behind.

If you dont want to have to roll the fenders or have possible rubbing issues, just do the 8.5" front/9.5" rear and do a 245/275 on it, and call it a day. I run 9.5" in front and run 255's and they are fine, dont look to stretched, although BFG's do run kinda wide. HERE are some pics of my 9.5"/10.5" set-up, maybe it will motivate you to do it right

I debated the same thing with Hiro's, 9.5" or 10.5" rear

The wider looks better but if you're running a 275 on a 10.5" it looks kinda lame (stretched). If you run the proper size on that rim 295-305 and your 265's on the fronts, on both counts they are expensive as hell.

Guess I'm a cheap a$$ cuz I'm planning on using 275's on 9.5's and 245's on 8.5's up front. I don't want to spend $1,200-$1,400 for a set of tires. The setup I want to use, I should be able to get a set of tires for about $1,000 or hopefully a little less.

If you're running 400+ HP or plan to in the future, well you would obviously have the money to spend on the FI so Spending that kind of dough for big rubber shouldn't be a problem. A NA Z doesn't need a huge tire in the rear. Looks cool as hell yes but totally not neccisary.

On a mostly stock and or NA Z the wider and heavier rims and tires will actually make your Z slower anyway. Why spend all that $$$ to make your NA car slower?

I imagine your car will stick a little better at break neck track speeds thru turns though but I mean how much grip do ya really need on a street car? I've taken turns in my truck that a lot of guys can't, won't or don't hang with and it's only on 245/40/18's. It's hard to get them to chirp on high speed corners. I have to really try to make them squeel.

On the upside it will make your wallet lighter, which would make you go a little quicker:-D kidding.

If you're gonna run a wild turbo or supercharger, I'd say go for it, otherwise I would save the cash for something other than pricey tires.

It really comes down to how bad do you like the looks and or how bad do ya need that extra grip?

Either way your car will look better and corner better than A GT and that's all that really matters:-D

That looks goood. I think I'm pretty set on the 10.5 rears, but it sure would be nice to see what 9.5 rears looked like.

So... currently my car is not lowered, so it won't rub with 285s unless I lower it?

a 275 on a 10.5 is by no means stretched. and i can still run way wider and im lowered 1.5inches. its all inn the offset

I like the 245 front.... then the fat in the rear... next set i will go 255 front/295 back! I like the extreme of the tire sizes, makes the 285 look bigger than they really are...

You also have to remember to keep the overall diameter of the tire/wheel combo as close to stock as possible. I have yet to see a 295 or 305 that would do this, but then again I am not looking that hard since a tire that big is unnecessary. Even guys that are FI, who the heck would want to try and go fast on 19's or 20's anyways? Get some real race wheels and rubber for that; drag radials, slicks, Toyo RA-1, Yoko AO32-R, etc.

I went with a 19x9.5 FR and 19x11 RR for street with a 285 in the back.

Race I went with 17's with Yoko A032-R's

10.5 looks good, but it's so useless performance wise. Only makes sense on street/poseur/bling setup, 275 is already too big for my tastes otherwise.

I have been told and read that on the +22 with a 285 at stock ride height it wont rub. You would be running a +24 offset in the rear so you would have 2mm more clearance, so I would think you'd be 99.9% fine on them. If you do need them rolled, find a local guy, I had mine rolled for under $100

Then there is no decision. If you want to use a 275, then you need to stay with a 9.5" wide wheel. Going with a 10.5" wheel will definitely make the tire look thinner and just add weight. I have a 275 on my 9.5" GT-7 and I still don't think the tire is wide enough which is why I plan on going 285 next time.
