Default Rays lugnuts weigh practically NOTHING

holy crap! I just got my Rays lug nuts today and they feel like they don't weigh hardly anything.

seriously, they weigh about as much as about 3 sticks of gum apiece vs a roll of pennies

It's almost like they're made out of plastic or something, but they're not.

Yep. I think they are worth the money. Some guys say the weight change doesn't matter, but every bit helps.

worth every penny till your wheel cleaner discolors them..or until you lose one (or the key) and have to buy another set.

I have them on my car too, but the spline drives I had previously worked just as well, the color stayed put and if I lose a key or a lug, its easy to get a replacement

Thats why you dont use wheel cleaner!! I always hear horror stories about "safe for all" wheel cleaner ruining polished lips and killing clearcoat overtime. Now its taking coloring off lug nuts. I just use the soapy water from the car wash bucket with a designated wheel rag.

yeah i just use a rag with the zaino soap so i wasn't really worried about discoloring the lugnuts

would have been nice if the Rays set included 2 extra normal lug nuts...

i used to have these rays lightweight lug nuts, but one day after few laps on the track, retourqing the lug nuts, i found out it is loose due to the heat expension(just my speculations).....i'm 100% sure its tight because i always check it when i arrived the track...
i'm using rays chromoly steel lug nuts now, no more this kinds of problem.

well stock lug nuts prolly weigh about 5x as much as the Rays. i dunno how much weight that is...but maybe saving a pound or so. every pound adds up to rotational mass

alot? I wouldn't think so. At most you are saving a couple pounds - spread that over the 4 wheels and you are talking ounces per corner. I could eat tuna and water for 2 days and drop more weight

I've been racing now for 10 + years - if you can feel 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 lbs of rotational mass spread over 4 wheels, you are in the wrong profession!!!

Yes they are light, yes they are Rays - they are worth it for the "JDM factor" but that's about it

Default I have the answer......for a G35 coupe

Following are mass taken off of my G35 coupe. All mass is plus/minus 0.2 grams.

OEM lug nuts are approximately 34.4 grams:

Ray's duraluminum are approximately 31.2 grams:

Total mass savings are (31.2 grams - 34.4 grams) X 20 lug nuts = (-3.2 grams) X 20 = -64.0 grams. This is approximately 2.25 ounces saved.

Here's the kicker, I'm carrying all these tools (1,531.1 grams) to make sure I can take my wheels off in case of an emergency.

The net result? I'm actually carrying an extra 1,467.1 grams. This is approximately an extra 51.75 ounces or 3.23 pounds more mass.

If you buy, buy for looks or extra theft protection. I don't think you're getting any performance benefit.

I wouldn't brag about having weightless lugnuts if I were Ray (probably doesn't even have a peni$)
