Mis-matched Speed Ratings
I've given up for now on the idea of upgrading the factory wheels on my Z. Ultimately, I would love to throw a set of 19"s on it because I know it looks great. I drive too much. I bought the car 16 months ago with around 15K miles on it. It now has 47K miles. Averaging 2000+ miles/month, I can't justify the expense of frequent replacement of pricey tires.
That said (guilt and excuses aside) I need to replace the factory tires. I've decided I like the Falken Ziex ZX-512 and they make them in the factory sizes, 225/50/17 and 235/50/17. Unfortunately, only the rears are ZR-rated (actually W-rated with the new updated ratings, so good up to 168mph). The fronts are V-rated. This is still a 149 mph rating; that is not the issue. Do I have anything to worry about mis-matching a V-rated tire and a ZR-rated tire, or can I just expect the rears to wear out a bit faster than usual?
