Default Ideal Wheel Width

Hey Everyone,

I'm shopping for wheels and am pretty confident I want an 18" wheel to accommodate a BBK some time in the future. But I'm a little confused as to what wheel width to run. I plan on staying NA so I don't need 305 width rubber but I would like more traction. I was considering running an 18x8.5 in the front and a 18x9.5 or 18x10 in the rear with 245s in the front and 275 out back. Does this setup make sense? What is the ideal tire size for a 8.5 width wheel?

Thanks,

Reav

I'm running 245-35's on 8.5's in front, 275-35's on rear, good setup.

On 18" wheel, you nees 245/40 and 275/40. This is the standard upsize that people run that matches stock rolling circumference.

18 X 9.0 on all four corners with 245/40 (F) and 265/40 (R)

IMO 35 series tires will look much nice that 40's. A bit stiffer, but nicer looking.

If you want less understeeer, go with same width front and rear or as little diff as possible. If you want to be safe go with the recomended 245 front and 275 rear.

There is no ideal width for all situations. Considering clearance for big brakes: wheels diameter, offset and spoke style also play a role.

The best setup IMO is a 18x9Front 18x10Rear.

Most people on this forum can't fill out the tire for their rim so they are left with a heavier rim and run the same size tire as a 9.5.

I would get this size because many people come to this site and say "Im going to stay N/A and I don't want anymore power." Then you see the thread I just got Turbo, woo hoooooo".

A 9 will fit between a 245 and probably 275 perfectly. A 10" can probably accomidate between 285 and 315 ideally. Since no one is running larger than a 315 w/out a widebody or fender flares. The rest is pure looks and bragging rights. So its up to you what you need/want.
