Just installed Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D3
UPS just delivered the front pair of my new Eagle F1 GS D3s in a 245/40/18 from DTD (the rears 275/40 are on backorder until the end of the month). I wasn't looking to replace my fronts yet, but I had a nail through one of the sidewalls
which forced me to do it sooner than anticipated. The rears are at the wear markers and have needed replacing.
I had Michilen Pilot A/S on the car before (still on rear atm) and I was extremely pleased with those. Before the nail got me, I put about 15K miles on them without a bit of feathering ('03 model) and little road noise compared to the RE040s. They had excellent wet & dry traction and didn't wear out as quick as the stockers.
My major concern was the wet traction on the new Eagle's. Well, the bottom fell out while they were being installed, and it rained about 2-3 inches in an hr. On the way home, I was extremely surprised at the wet traction these have. I would compare it to the Michilen A/S that I had on before. They held the road very well even through deep puddles of standing water.
Well, I guess I got a little carried away testing the traction... and forgot that the rears are still bald. I was making a left turn with a bit too much speed. One of the rears started slipping, and before traction control could save me, I did a 360 in the road. Luckily, I kept it in the road and no harm was done.
Just goes to show you that it doesn't take much to spin this car around on wet roads. I'll definitely be more careful in the future, when it's wet.
Meanwhile, I'll have to go do some good burnouts and doughnuts on these old rears in a dry parking lot, before my new ones come in. If I can borrow a friend's camera, I'll post it. I know how much fun it's to see the Fairlady burning rubber.
Anyone else have the GS D3s? What kind of mileage can I expect out of these?
